Anglia Ruskin University Or Art University Bournemouth for Animation?

Hi, I recently went to ARU for an applicant day and I really loved the uni, but I'm struggling to choose between studying animation at ARU or AUB, which university would be the better choice for animation?
I think they're both pretty good for it, might depend on what particular kind of animation you're interested in? My sister did Animation (and Illustration) at ARU after a foundation at AUB, I think she found ARU focused a bit more on traditional and stop motion animation than digital/3D animation (which suited her as she preferred that approach in line with her illustration interests). So if you are more interested in 3D/digital animation it may be less suited to your interests? Of course things might've changed there since then as that was about 10 years ago now that she was there!

@PQ might have a handle on what particular specialisms each have and what to look for in general for an animation course in making your decision?

That's the same plan that I'm planning on doing, do art Foundation at AUB then re apply next year, and yes I'm also interested in 2D more than 3D that's why I really enjoyed applicant day at Anglia Ruskin
I'd say AUB is quite traditional too (at least in 1st year there's a focus on lightbox drawing and stop motion before there's a chance to branch out and specialise in digital/3d/computer animation in later years).

I'd say if you're planning on taking the FAD at AUB then you'll have plenty of time to find out more about the different courses.

Other universities to look at if you're after a 2d/drawing focused experience would be South Wales and Edinburgh (and possible Manchester's Ill&Anim combined course). Herts do a 2d route too.

Hi @DawPiot14

Thanks for coming to our applicant day and we're so happy that you had a good time. I hear the muffins on offer were delectable....

Obviously, we would love you to chose ARU :colondollar: but our advice is always go with what feels right for you.

If both courses offer the right modules for you, then it's got to be about the city and community itself. Where can you see yourself living and making meaningful connections? Where do you see yourself finding your tribe? Which uni has the setup you most like?

I hope this helps, and we do have an illustration ambassador (Luke who you have met on Saturday) if you have anymore questions for them about life at ARU, I can point them this way. Just let me know.

Best wishes,
Megan
