Research grant for masters

Hi I would like to study animal behaviour (MRes) at Newcastle university next year, but I'm not sure if I'll be able to afford it.
Would anyone happen to know of any research grants for animal behaviour, I'm having trouble finding some online.

Hi @meganwilford,

Finding funding for a Masters is always tricky unless there's industry sponsorship available. There's the Postgraduate Master's Loan that the UK government offer (https://www.gov.uk/funding-for-postgraduate-study) and a fairly comprehensive guide to other national funding pots and funding options at https://www.prospects.ac.uk/postgraduate-study/funding-postgraduate-study.

Otherwise, it might be worth asking both the university and your prospective MRes supervisors if they are aware of any specific funding pots or research grants you could apply for. And get signed up to any research networks/organisations in your field. A lot of smaller grants and bursaries aren't advertised outside of group mailing lists. They're unlikely to fund your entire course but can often be worth a few hundred pounds, which can be a huge help with travel, conference attendance, and other associated expenses.

Hope that helps!

I’m doing Animal Behaviour MRES in Sept! Have you decided whether you’re going to do it?
