Halifax College accommodation, University of York

Hi,
I have been offered a Band 3 en suite room in Halifax (Ainsty Court) . As a post grad how was your overall experience in Halifax College? Is it quiet and calm ? How many students generally share kitchen in a Ainsty Court ?

Thanks !!

Hi!

I can't find much about Ainsty Court online, but the other Band 3 Accommodation in Halifax College has 10-12 students per house sharing one kitchen. However, it could be different at Ainsty Court. I imagine if anything, there will be fewer students per kitchen. If you are sharing with a large number of students, the kitchens are big enough to accommodate this and will have enough space and appliances.

I wasn't in Halifax College but I've spent a lot of time there with friends who had accommodation there. It has a really nice atmosphere and it's generally nice and quiet since it's away from the hustle and bustle of the main part of Campus West

Thank you for the information !

Actually, from what I've heard, Post-graduates usually opt for Wentworth College, whereas, Halifax is least favoured by Post-grads. Being an international student, I am unaware of goods & bads of both the Halifax and Wentworth accommodation, however, I am certain that they both would provide a unique experience. I would be grateful, if you could shed some light on this.

Hi!

Wentworth College is only for postgraduate students, whereas Halifax College has a mixture of undergraduate and postgraduate students. Because Wentworth is postgrad only, that might explain why it is popular with postgraduate students.

From my experience, both colleges are great. They both have two common rooms each for students to socialise in. I would say that the layout of Halifax feels like more of a community as most accommodation is in a house layout, whereas Wentworth is largely blocks of flats. Wentworth college is more central, so it's nearer the main Campus West buildings and amenities. Halifax is a bit further out, but it's a nice place to get away from the buzz of campus. I'm sure you will have a great time in Halifax!

Let me know if you have any other questions!

Hi !

Thank you so much for giving me a brief insight !

I think, Halifax would be a great option too, due to its location and layout. As a science postgrad, I prefer a calm and relaxed environment.

Thanks !!

Asad
