DWP Work coach EO Versus Universal credit review EO

Hello everyone,

My message is on two discussion feeds but thought maybe a separate one would be best.

I have just received a provisional offer (664- UC case review EO) which I'm very happy about. I'm very lucky as I also have another provisional offer for a Work Coach position.

The thing is, providing that all my pre-employment checks go well for both, I'll have to decide which one to keep and that's not easy when you don't have the full picture of what those jobs involve really, their pros and cons...

I would be grateful if someone could tell me about a typical day as a UC case review EO.
For exemple, is it 100% telephone based (I mean are you spending your days on the phone?)? Are they outbound or inbound? Are you targeted on calls or are they timed like in call centers? What part of your day does the administrative work take? What did you think about the training? On your first days working from home, how did you feel ( Were you confident thanks to the training or any support available if needed?)

Oh and also, what are the requirements to work from home? The place I'm staying right now doesn't have any landline. Can the work from home be just administrative work and appointment calls at the office? You see I really struggle having a clear picture!

The Work Coach provisional offer does also interest me a lot. I prefer face to face interactions as I worked in a call center and found being 8h a day on the phone being very stressful. At the same time, being able to have flexitime and work from home even 2 days per week is very appealing. I also have the feeling that work coach is more into helping people whereas UC case review could be more checking people are not frauding and calling them to investigate? Finaly, UC case review EO position would be a step towards working in Fraud or other financial departments because maybe more specialised than the Work Coach role where the EO probably has to have a wider knowledge but on many more areas and actors?

Please what are your opinions on these roles? What is your experience ?

Many thanks for reading that long message and good luck for those still waiting for results.

Hi,

Sorry to hijack this slightly, 664 was Swindon wasn't it?

If so, wasn't the PRVI only done within the last 2 weeks?

Hi, no worries, yes 664 Swindon. I did the interview on 12 or 13/12 and received the provisional offer yesterday 21/12 with 24 scored. That was very quick compared to other campaigns. Did you apply and are still waiting? Best of luck if so

Congratulations, I did mine on the 7/12 for 663.

That was a real quick turn around. How many positions was there for 664? 663 had 120 if I remember rightly.

Thank you! I think 400 positions were mentionned on the Civil Service job website for 664

Hi MT8,

I am in the exact position as you. I also had a conditional offer to commence the work coach job and recently decided to wait for the UC job for the flexibility and less commuting time (only 25 mins). I can start and end my work day from home the minute I log in and log out the the system. A few days a week in the office is plenty for my social interaction as I am quite comfortable at home :-)

As far as communication equipment I was told everything is provided and set up in your home. A desk or office chair can be provided. You will receive an Apple Mac laptop and any other specific requirements to your individual needs.

Lastly, I also agree UC provides specialized training for potential upward mobility for several career opportunities in many departments due to its wide scope such as fraud, compliance, finance, HR and Management positions.

I hope I provided some insight to assist in your decision-making.

Thank you so much for sharing the information! Very appreciated.
I completely agree with you for the advantages of working from home 2 days per week.
Is your application for Swindon as well? Did you withdraw from the work coach offer? I didn't dare to as I am still waiting for my checks to be cleared for both positions and that gets me quite anxious.

Wish you the best of luck and a Happy New Year!

Mt8,

I believe the UC Credit Review position is currently 3 days work from home and 2 days work from the office. I withdrew from the work coach positions which I had provisional offers to pursue the DWP Credit Review position. My Credit Review role is based in Essex for which I am currently awaiting PECs.

Is work coach a complete office based role?

See my most recent post about my experience of being a WC by clicking my profile.

I found my WC diary unrelenting packed and intense to such as a degree that it was much more stressful than my telephony based role in HMRC. At least with the latter, I could take a 5min break every hour or switch off my call connections to do admin or research.

Perhaps it was just my job centre as each has a different culture and different demographic for it's customer base. Also, to be fair, I was on an 'easier' line of business for the HMRC with mainly cooperative customers.

I thought I would enjoy the face to face element in the JCP as I had done mixed channel customer service before. I disliked these because I was simultaneously hammered in person, by email and telephone and thought at least the WC role is by structured appointments rather than random demand across multiple channels.

I would describe the WC role as feeling like speed dating with the angry, sad, vulnerable and evasive.

You are wrong about the UC position being more likely to help you secure a future position in Fraud.

Suggest you set up alerts for fraud related vacancies so you can look at the person spec.

Most CS recruitment continues to be based on general competencies ('success profile') rather than skill/experience specific.
