I'm in grizedale and yep, the ensuite's are all the newest + very nice.
They're building the bar at the moment, but it's due to be finished by September (and actually looks like it might be!), so won't be there when you start, plus you'll have a brand new bar!
Just be glad you're not here at the moment! Haha the builders are really noisy today :frown:

I like the look of Furness and Grizedale best too! (And Fylde...)
The townhouses are amazing....
Pendle is split between the tip of the spine and south west campus, with the standard rooms on the spine near the bar. These are arranged in a quadrangle and offer rooms in flats of 8 with two toilets/showers in each flat. The fittings are very similar to those in Furness standard. The ensuite accommodation is in south west but I've never been in those...

Furness is at the centre of campus, literally a minute from Alex Sq. The standard rooms are located in a circle with flats for between 3 and 7 people [those with five or less have one toilet/shower and those with more have two]. Some of the kitchens have balconies. They have a great sense of community! Furness ensuite is located next to our circle and they are kitted out like many of the other ensuite rooms with fitted furniture and lovely kitchens.

The colleges all have a mixture of people and you are free to go to any of the bars.

I've been woken up at about 8am for the past year - it's unbelievably annoying!

Furness sounds lovely!

Do people whp put it down as their first choice often get it??

Also me and my LT bf are both coming to lancs, and want to be close together, if we put furness standard first, would bowland or pendle standard be better as the second choice.

Also i know it is probably not possible, but if we emailed the uni when applying, could we ask if we could be put in the same flat? Would they do that?

Furness is, in general, quite oversubscribed. I would say Bowland is a better bet if you want to be closer together, although there's alwasy the chance that one of you could end up in main and the other in Ash House. But either way, you can always stay over at the others, or whatever. One of my flatmates has a long term boyfriend in Pendle, and they very rarely spend the night apart- My boufriend and I probably spend less nights together, and we live in the same flat.

It is a prime sunbathing spot as well with all the grass next to the engineering building 10 seconds away - just spent the afternoon out there [hasn't helped with revision but nevermind lol]!

From what i remember, you can put down if you want to be near someone. I think there are two options - one to be near (which I did with my friend and we are in different blocks but less than 30 seconds away door to door) and one to be in the same flat as. I think.

Furness is great - very central with a real mix of people. It was my first choice last year and I got in.

I applied of Furness, but was given my second option, which was Grizedale (Bowland Tower accom).

Judging from my experience with my friends, Furness is very popular!
Bowland would be a good option. I remember that my boyfriend requested to be put in the same area as his childhood friend. They were put about 5 doors away from one another, so it is possible!

Even though I was in different accomodation to my boyfriend, we still spen 3 out of 7 nights together. So even if you're not put together, you can still see each other as much as you want to, work providing... :s-smilie:

When you apply, there's a bit on the form that asks if you'd like to live with/near someone you know, but I don't know how close they'd put you to each other.

Think about it carefully though, would you really want to live with each other...and other people? If the 2 of you seem really coupley to outsiders it might be a bit intimidating to other flatmates.

I agree with this: there is a couple in my flat this year and it does get a bit annoying when they are all over each other in the kitchen! Although they don't spend all their time together and they do mix with the rest of us.
But imagine how awkward things would be if you split up and had to spend the rest of the year living in the same flat. This happened to a friend of mine in their first year. It was awful. I know you don't expect this to happen but you need to think about what you would do if it did.
I think being in the same college would be fine, maybe even in the same house, but I would be very careful about asking to be in the same flat as a partner or close friend.

I know, weve talked about this, and since weve been together for a VERY long time and are still VERY happy we hope it will be fine. I pretty much live at his house now because i have a very awkward situation with my stepfather and mother, so living int he same flat wouldnt be a problem!

Also were not the sort of people who go for PDAs , I for one despise them considering an ex-close friend of mine would basically be all over her boyfriend constantly it was just so awkward. No matter how much anyone would try to remind them there ARE other people around, they would just get very defensive! I would just hate to do that to somebody else! If i ever did become like that i would allow anyone to bring me back to my senses by any means necessary lol!

Er you know where the bar's being built and opposite that there's that barbecue area? Outside there.

If I were going for grizedale, id pick a townhouse rather than ensuite. Townhouses are about ten quid cheaper but much better. The kitchens are massive and are great for parties, mini raves or general socialising. Plus your with twelve people so youve got a greater chance of meeting someone you really get on with. The only downside is your sharing a toilet, but this is hardly an issue, its between two people and its not like your ever going to wait to use it.
Also because you dont have an ensuite in your room you actually have more space and a bigger room, the ensuites take up space in your room.

PM me or whatever if you want any more general info on the uni or lancaster.

Ahh yeah it's probably a bit worse for you over there lol. When they were doing something on the path to the spine next to the management school it was hell. Right under my window! :frown:

Yeahh, I'd say townhouse is probably better tbh. Unless you're really want your own bathroom. And the townhouses don't get cleaners either (the ensuite's may as well not have for all they actually do...)
Absinth
Do cleaners clean your rooms, or just the ensuite bathrooms? What about standard accommodation? Thanks.

The cleaners only "clean" communal areas. They don't enter your room at all. Hence, ensuite bathrooms are your own responsibility. To be honest, we've not had the best of luck with cleaners - they only thing we can rely on them to do 99% of the time is take the bin out in the kitchen. Everything else is done rarely at best.

The townhouses don't have cleaners at all.

In standard, the kitchens and bathrooms get done, and the corridor gets hoovered. The cleaner has taken to bleaching th bathroom though, and the smell of chlorine brings on terrible hayfever-y symptoms in me, so I'm not happy...
