In most instances continuity will substitute perfectly well for specific dates if you're detailed enough. Both demonstrate to the examiner that you know what you're writing about.

You could just say for example 'in the 1840's' if the event was actually in 1848. But yeah, totally possible I think. Just make sure you know the really key dates, but minor one's will not matter.

Also some dates are really obvious like..."9/11"
