I've always wondered why people apply to the BSc Economics with Economic History.

Applications 2010: 84
First year students 2010: 3

I mean your personal statement has to be perfect

 I'd be more fussed about the fact that I'd only have two other people in my course! I mean, who would you talk to/swap notes & questions with if you don't get on with them!

You think that's bad, but what about BSc Social Policy and Sociology....

Applications 2010: 88
First year students 2010: 1

It kind of scares me that Gov & Econ has a similar ratio to that one you posted though! :s-smilie: (800:40). Although of course it slightly overexaggerates the difficulty as they give out 2.5 offers for every place.

is that 2.5 offers for every place for all course at LSE or just gov and econ?

It's overall across all courses, at the open day the man who gave a talk introducing us to the university said it was 2.5:1, and I found that figure on last year's LSE Applicants thread so it's probably accurate. For the more competitive courses, like Economics, I'd imagine the ratio is lower though obviously

For Gov & Econ? That's just on the page for the degree, 800 applicants, 40 places  And I found the 88 applicants for 1 place one as I was bored the other day so I decided to go trawling through all the other courses

You've gotten an offer already?!
What were your grades like?

His post was written in June, I think he got the offer last year.

KCL's BSc Business Management had 4500 applicants for 200 places last year.

For geography that's high though - cambridge is 3:1
