yeah sorry :P
and what did you do in your gap year?
the headteacher interviewed me for Tiffin

Resat one of my exams, volunteered at hospital and did an A level in chemistry. Interesting, when we got interviewed it was the head of sixth form. You know she used to be Langley's headteacher right?
My cousins went to Tiffin
One at boys, one at girls (both are at uni now)
Ones at Y10 at TB's atm
Ones joining Y7 in September

Its amazing but you have to be motivated to work otherwise you will fall behind..

I went to Kendrick...equally as competitive.

Wow you must have really impressed them then! I didn't know anything about tiffin when I went for mine . Usually if you get an interview it pretty much means you're guaranteed an offer from them. I think they just want to interview you to make sure you're not insane :colone:

Oh no I don't go to Tiffin, I don't live near London I was just snooping on threads :colone:
but if you have any questions about sixth forms in general, feel free to ask

So what do you do in geography in UCL? What are you learning about?

First year is a mix - feels like we've learnt everything from the climate of the past million years to hurricane/tsunami/earthquakes to geopolitics and future wars over water to globalisation, trade and things like Marxism. Oh and I should add, the entire history of London - government, transport, development of shopping centres, regeneration, gentrification.... The list just goes on and on...

It's all very interesting but very, very diverse.

Some modules overlap with, say, geology or anthropology or international relations, but we still learn everything in as much as them. Which makes it a hard degree because you have to be able to master so much =\

A bit late, but I got an offer from Tiffin girls a while ago, but they gave me English instead of Chemistry.
I'm still trying to make up my mind on where to go and they said in one of their letters that they might offer me Chemistry if I turn up on results day with 9A*....so could I hold them to that? What kinda chances am I looking at?
Any help at all appreciated

Are you just doing geography alone? What year are you in? What jobs can you get from just geo alone, if you are doing just geo alone?

Yep straight geography, just finished first year. Geographers are the 3rd most employed graduates - half go into finance/banking, others go into pretty much any field they want to. It's such a broad degree that it allows your prospects to be broad too.

How far is tiffin girls school from tiffin boys, on the map it looks really far away, how many mins would you say? Do you even have to go there? Or do they come to tiffin boys? :s-smilie:

I don't know how far it is because I've never been there. I think it's a bus ride away. You have a choice to either stay at the boys school or go to the girls, the girls have the same option so you mix either way.

Oh right ok
Hows chemistry going? Learnt the definitions? I was reading an As chem book, lots of definitions to learn

Chemistry is going good. Had my AS exams already and got unit 5 next week. They're loads of definitions but seriously they are the least of your worries when it comes to chemistry.

How many exams do you do, units etc? Including biology.

A level chemistry and biology are six unit A levels. Unit 1,2,4 and 5 are written papers, unit 3,6 are the practical elements of the course. The content of the units varies between exam boards.
I was a deputy head boy at Tiffin during 2007, i came from Hinchley Wood school for my GCSEs, and joined Tiffin for A levels. The school really is excellent, however i must say the success is due to an inherent nature of the students there i.e already intelligent people who come from good families who encourage academic excellence. The teaching was good but not significantly better than Hinchley Wood, and even worse in some cases.

As for opportunities beyond school, it was that background and my reference that got me my medicine offer in the end. Sitting on a C in chemistry for AS, i was very fortunate to be at such a good school and in a good position there also.

Lots of medicine prep and prep for other competitive courses, many offers each year. If you get an offer i would whole heartedly encourage you to go if you are serious about being successful.

note: not going doesn't mean you won't be successful, before anyone bites my head of, i just believe personally its a good option to go for.

It's about a 15 min walk - just straight down Richmond Road. I think it's literally 3 stops on the bus.

You go to the boys/girls school during general studies. Half the boys stay at the boys school and half go to the girls school, and vice versa. That happens once a week - although general studies is a bit of a joke and just a time people used for socialising. The exam doesn't require any 'work' or 'revision' so it really just is a way to mix the boys and the girls.

 you make it sound like a free period where people just talk

Well that pretty much sums up general studies. Teachers try and make you take it seriously but it never works.
