I'm coming from near Ipswich, so a similar sort of direction as you. I feel like it was only (though i use the term loosely) a five hour drive or so for us.

I'm studying English Lit with Creative Writing.

4 1/2 hours if you travel early in the morning from Bury St Edmunds but you will probably be an extra 1/2 hour from Ipswich. I found trains were best for me from Thetford but there's a route from Ipswich for Ipswich Ely Manchester Picaddilly Lancaster, I think. It will take longer by car if you hit traffic and takes about 5-5:30 for me by train.

Haha, me too, I don't feel like enough of an adult for it yet! Furness  What about you?

Hahah me neither really, I'm still yet to buy a load of essentials too, haha. I'm in County  Looking forward to freshers' week?

Yeah, that sounds about right. I'll definitely be coming by car the first time since I don't fancy my chances of getting all my stuff! Though I looked earlier and it seems like you could do Ipswich to Lancaster in a bit under 5 hours, though that's with 2 changes. Definitely an option if I ever need to head home at short notice though.

I know the feeling, though I think I'm getting there now - the list of things I have left to do is definitely shorter than it was!

Definitely, it sounds brilliant! I'm not very good at drinking though, so I feel like I might be a little bit out of my league at first

Does everyone from County move in on the 29th with Furness, or are you guys the day before?

Haha, I'm glad, you'll get there! I seem to be getting rather obsessive over stationery, rather than the most important things xD Ahhh, not to worry! You don't necessarily have to drink much in order to have a good time - plus you'd save a fair bit of money

We're on the Saturday, so the day before you - I feel a little bad for my parents as I'm completely ruining their weekend with a delightful 10-12 hour drive x)

How's your timetable looking? Or are you yet to select additional modules too?
Hey guys!
I'm studying Natural Sciences and live in West Lancashire, so about an hours drive for me
Anyone else doing Natural Sciences? Haven't found anyone yet

Haha, I don't know, post-it notes and highlighters are pretty damn important if you ask me! Though you should probably try to remember to bring a few clothes and things too... :P

Yeah, I feel kind of guilty about that as well - it's going to be a long old weekend! I think we're going to drive up on the Saturday and stay overnight with relatives or something though, because 10 hours or so in one day is a bit much for my mum to do on her own.

At the moment I have four hour-long lectures a week and nothing at all on Wednesday - can't complain really  Though I haven't signed up for my other minor yet, so I'll have that to add, and I assume there must be seminars and workshops that aren't on there either. I guess between English Lit and Creative Writing I'll have a lot of reading and writing to do in my own time too.

How's yours? I hear science subjects are a bit more heavy on the lectures than humanities xD

Very true haha! Never have I spent so much for a lever-arch file, either! But yeah, I guess I should take bedding or something..

Smart thinking, I suppose it's pretty convenient that you have relatives nearby! It is really, I sympathise :P I can hardly bare sitting in the passenger seat for that long, let alone driving. I suppose we won't have to do it too often though

I'm envious, sounds fantastic! But yeah, they shall all accumulate I guess - I like the idea behind seminars, should be interesting! Ohhh I see, what minor(s) are you thinking of taking? It doesn't actually have to be relevant to your degree, does it? Yeah I've heard reading lists for English-related subjects are huge!

Haha, I'm yet to find out how compact mine will be x) Bio students only have two compulsory modules, the rest we begin to choose to our own interests. There are loads of modules and timetable places you're required to fill, so I've got a feeling my weeks are going to be fairly busy! Thinking about which biology/chemistry modules to take is such a difficult decision xD

Yeah, means that even though I'm a long way from home, I've got extended family fairly close by if I really need them which is reassuring

I think so too, and having so much independent studying to do will be a new experience. I don't know about you bio students, but it'll be interesting being more free to form our own opinions and interpretations of texts in English (I think it's interesting anyway :P), rather than being told what you need to think to pass an exam, which is more the case at A Level.

Creative writing counts as one of my minors, and I'm thinking of taking Sociology as my second since I did it at AS. What about you?

Sounds like you have a lot more to think about than I do! Must be difficult having to choose, but having the option to gear your course towards specific areas in that much detail seems useful. I guess you'd be able to get an idea whether there's a specific area you want to specialise in too?

Yeah I agree, it'll be a lot different (a good different) in comparison to A Level, I suppose it prepares us for real life much more! I'm most looking forward to my course out of anything at university (God, I'm sad haha). Lab practicals will be pretty sweet too! I wonder how much the workload differs..

Ah I see, that'd be a good way to go then  Uuuhm, I'm still deciding, though I'm leaning towards chemistry as my minor. Though it's compulsory for bio students to take at least one module from environmental biology :x

Yeah, I think it's a great idea. I'm relatively open at the moment so will what appeals to me the most during my degree, but may potentially go down the line of genetics. Only time will tell  Have you got any career/specialisation ideas?

You mean you're not paying £9000 purely for the drinks, parties, one-night stands, and opportunities to be irresponsible without your parent's knowledge?! You actually want to... learn things...? o_0

Ooh, sounds cool! I guess the thing about science is that even while you're learning about it all, new discoveries are still being made, so you might end up working in an area that didn't even exist when you started uni. Sort of makes me wish I was good at science :P

I don't really know yet :/ Just thought I'd try to get a good degree from a good uni in something I enjoy, and then see what I fancy. Figured I couldn't go too far wrong with that

Hahaha, sadly there are actually people who go to university purely to get absolutely hammered

Precisely  You're working with researchers who are continually making new advancements and discoveries in the field - pretty badass. I think I've FINALLY come to a set of 15 modules that I'm happy with, worry over!

Sounds good, if you enjoy it, then there's no reason why it can't take you somewhere great. Is yours a three year course too?

Have you thought about any societies to join yet? I'm not sure how much time we'll actually have for them!

I feel like maybe they're missing the point a bit...

And you've got access to some of the best equipment money and knowledge can make too - definitely badass! Nice one!! One less thing to worry about

Yeah, mine's three years too

I think I'll definitely join the Harry Potter society because I'm a huge nerd - and they play quidditch and everything! Probably the equestrian one if I can afford it, maybe a gaming society (as long as they're not all MLG pros because that would be way out of my league), and I really want to try a new sport like karate or archery. Doing some writing for a university newspaper or something like that would be a good way to find out if I want to get into journalism in the future

But yeah, I'm not sure how many of those I'll actually end up doing, though it's nice to be ambitious! What about you?

You've got quite a list there! Haha, best you invest in a broomstick then! That'd be pretty sweet, I play games on and off too (on PC mind you), what game(s) are you currently playing? Yeah, that's a good idea - gain a bit of publishing experience! There's a similar Lancaster science magazine I may/may not get into - it's food for thought anyway! I'd also like to join the hiking/mountaineering society, plainly because I enjoy that kinda thang. But I'm relatively open to new things, I'll see what takes my fancy at the freshers' fair!

Oui, it's a great opportunity to try out new things.. Didn't fancy the skydiving society?

Ahh, I'm more of an Xbox kind of girl, though I play Minecraft and Torchlight on PC occasionally. I'm steadily (very, very steadily, mind you...) working my way through the Mass Effect trilogy and Skyrim, and GTA V multiplayer is ridiculously fun :P What about you?

Ooh, Lancaster would be really good for hiking with all that amazing countryside so close by! Good idea, we'll probably be overloaded with new things to try - though I think maybe I'll be giving skydiving a miss, I'm not very good with heights xD

Ahh that's cool, GTA is so fun, enjoying erratic driving and beating down prostitutes? I sold my Xbox around a year ago - never played it! Can't say I'm a huge fan of Minecraft, though have seen my brother play Torchlight, looks pretty good! Hmmm, I don't play too many games any more, though when I do, it'd probably be something like League of Legends (rather embarrassing, heh). Are you taking your Xbox to Lancaster?

I know, right? The Lake District isn't too far away, and by god I love that place, some definite trips there! Haha, fair enough then, I imagine it'd be fairly expensive too! Have you had a look at the 20 minute society?
I'm studying psychology and will probably choose biomedicine as my minor.

Pretty rare here in the Lancaster forums, but I'm doing Chemical Engineering

And jousting with helicopters? And the beautifully satisfying irony of mowing down pedestrians with an ambulance? Of course  No, I'll have to leave the Xbox at home. Me and my sister share it and she plays it a lot more than I do - I doubt she'd ever let it leave the house!

Haha, I've never played LoL, though it looks like fun! Not convinced it'd be very easy to get the hang of though, from what I've seen it looks kind of complicated. Do you play DOTA or Heroes of Newerth? I hear they're kind of similar to League of Legends (spoiler: I haven't played those either, I'm just pretending to know what I'm talking about xD)

Definitely! It's so beautiful there  No, I haven't - sounds intriguing though, what is it?
