Gap year or go uni?

I've got an offer from Southampton to study Mechanical engineering but after getting A*A*A at a level I'm thinking of reapplying to Imperial Bath and Bristol. I'm concerned that if I do take a gap year will it be productive since most gap year schemes are full and would it be really worth it since Southampton is good uni for engineering. Any thoughts?
I personally think if you can aim higher - aim higher! What is one year in the long run when it'll make the difference between studying at a good uni or studying at one of England's best?

I'm currently on my second gap year, and there's lots to do. If you find a decent job you can save up and go travelling (planning on going to Japan this year myself!), you can pick up lots of hobbies/skills that you haven't previously had the time for.

Honestly, don't worry about it being majorly productive - use it to do what makes you happy, and stuff you won't be able to do when you're studying a degree for three years (something as simple as reading lots of books I'd count as productive! When you're at uni you'll be trying to balance studying, socialising and recreational activities.) When you have a job, you do your work at work and then your time outside of that is yours to play with.

Gap yah for your situation, go for it
Don't know if this would help. My brother applied to ICL with A*A*A*B (Maths, Chemistry, Further Maths, Physics IN THAT ORDER) for Computing and was rejected. He got a remark ended up with A*A*A*A :colonhash: and got in even though the entry requirements were A*AAA :s-smilie: . In my opinion ICL is crazy hard to get into. Just consider this first.

Hopefully i was helpful . Have a good day, rest of the day or good night sleep, depending where you are :h:
Go for it m8
You may actually call them though
