well ive just finished a general animal management course at college and now want to qualify as a veterinary nurse. However the course didnt go aswell as i would have hoped and my grades werent too great although i passed so Im am hopefully going to start the course next year either at uni or if i get into a vets to train that way.
Well i was wondering whether you all thought i should do some more work experience during this year, if it would give me a better chance to get onto a course? and if so what type of placements would be best?
so far ive got: 7 weeks at a small animal veterinary practice a couple of weeks at a kennels/cattery a couple of weeks at a small pet store/grooming parlour.
Most universities like people to have farm animal work, as others have said, Maybe try and get in at a dairy farm (though be prepared for long days =P i worked for close to 13 hours today!), or try and get somewhere next easter-ish time for Lambing or something
Well, if you want to become a vet, the unis love farm experience, particularly dairy, lambing and a bit of horsey work. If you just want to be a nurse i don't see any reason why you shouldn't do any large work exp, all it can do is strengthen your application and give you more to talk about at interview.
