Graduate medicine

I am hoping that someone could give me any beneficial advice specifically when applying for graduate medicine in the UK.
I am currently in my first yr of biomedical sciences and I’ve done lots of research on different uni requirements for graduate medicine .But I’m really struggling with finding some insightful work experience to start building my application now so that during my 3rd yr I can hopefully focus on any aptitude tests and acc graduate with at least a 2:1.
Help a sister out please

Morning!

Firstly, have you considered Graduate Entry Medicine at Swansea University? I am a current Third Year GEM Student at Swansea, and absolutely love it, so if you haven't looked into our course, you definitely should

In terms of work experience, my main tip would be to go for quality and not quantity. At Swansea, we don't have a set stipulation on the amount of hours of work experience that you would need to have, instead focussing on quality work experience. If you do a work experience opportunity, make sure you can reflect on it well. How has it changed your personal character? How has it improved your drive to study medicine and be a doctor? What did you learn? Examples of work experience are not limited to but could include things like care home experience, shadowing hospital doctors/GPs, hospice work, being a Health Care Support Worker etc.

The other piece of advice I would give would be with regards to admissions tests e.g., GAMSAT (which Swansea requires). Make sure you start to prepare early, and give yourself enough time to really get your head around the past papers, exam format and content.

Hope those little bits of advice help! Feel free to ask if you have any further questions

Hi there, thank you for the advice I know people say not to put all your eggs into one basket but I think im going to stick to unis that only require the UCAT because when I initially did the test it was difficult for me so idk if I could do the GAMSAT 😭. I will definitely take into account quality over quantity but it’s literally getting the work experience opportunity in the first place I’m struggling with because I don’t have ‘connections’ with doctors etc that could help me out .
Thanks for the advice xx

Exactly better to start early than cram revising for aptitude tests whilst trying to balance your ps,work experience and more importantly you’re actual degree.
