Being offered accommodation that is too expensive

Unfortunately, I have been offered temporary accommodation at The Link Hotel for 1-2 weeks. I will then be given on campus accommodation when they become available. However, a lot of the rooms on campus are too expensive for me. Is there anything the uni or I can do if I get offered a room I cannot afford?

try and see if other people are still waiting on accommodation and rent a house together? or look for a free room somewhere in the area?
