Career Skills

*Mods - please keep in the careers forum.*

For those of you looking to branch out career-wise beyond these shores, and for those of you who are looking to work in large organisations, please seriously consider going along to:

I'd strongly recommend the Bremen conference as it is extraordinarily well organised. (I haven't been to the London one so can't comment.) The skills that you will learn include:

- communications skills
- intrapersonal/negotiating skills
- public speaking/presentation skills
- working with people from other countries and cultures

At the Bremen conference (which the working language is English), very few people from the UK tend to go to it, thus you find yourself being of interest to many of the people there.

Certainly anyone looking to go into the civil service fast stream or the local government graduate programme should see these sorts of conferences as essential to allow you to hone your skills that will be tested during the assessment process. (These conferences quite often resemble an extended group exercise - only the conferences have jam-packed social activities in the evenings too.)

I went to the Bremen conferences between 2004-06 and had a really good time at all of them. The people there are fantastic.
