Woah, she sounds scary!

Just apply to the places where you think you'd be happy studying. It's going to be the best few years of your life, and you shouldn't be forced into spending them in one place when you'd rather be somewhere else.

All the best with your applications!

There isn't any such thing as a 'polytechinc' university any more. This was dropped in the 90's. For example De Montford University in Leicester used to be Leicester Polytechnic. The only university that has retained the 'polytechnic' in its name is APU, but isn't classed as a polytechnic as it offers degres in all major subjects.

The fact your teacher is suggesting that ex-polytechnic universities offer 'second class' degrees is living in the past. Perhaps in her day, when they were only offering more vocational courses then fine, perhaps you could class them as second rate to a degree in a core subject, but today they all offer the same.
