hey, I’m going into third year and plan on applying for GEM after taking a gap year (I also graduate in 2024, so hoping for 2025 entry).

i’ve been doing a lot of research and have quite a good idea for how I’ll go about applying. would love to talk to you about it if you’re down? trying to make more friends who are in the same boat for sanity reasons lol

Because i did not get all As at A level my options are limited so I am only applying to uni that only ask for 2:1 degree which i am currently working on between 1:1 and 2:1 but i am aiming for 2:1 lol. So after looking at all the options i only have 2 unis which are newcastle and warwick. Also because of funding GEM is my best route i can't afford undergraduate so i am aiming for a very competitive spot here lol.
For prep i did 2 weeks work experience in hospital and 2/3 virtual work experience and i am currently preparing for ucat ( :crast:) and yeah so far there that. My ucat is on 09/09 so i am going start my ps after that.

I didn’t get all As (AAC) either but there are quite a few unis that look more at degree classification and entrance exam score. Im looking at liverpool, manchester, newcastle and nottingham (lpool and manny being my number 1s). I know for liverpool and nottingham in particular they’re more focused on degree classification / GAMSAT score.

lol tell me about it, i cannot afford to pay for my tuition so i’m gambling and only applying to GEM courses. I wish there was more things regarding tutition for GEM, i feel like they only focus on undergrads.

how are you feeling about sitting the UCAT? I’m sitting both the GAMSAT and UCAT, but i’ll be focusing on the GAMSAT first since that’s in march. Im terrified for both, exams cause me so much stress lmao.

Yeah there was that thing as well when i first applied as undergrad i had to juggle between ucat bmat and my exams so this time i am only applying to ucat university which leaves me very limited choices. Seriously there is more funding as undergrad than GEM. But well let's work hard and wish for the best hopefully we can get in medicine.

I guess that’s smart of you. It’ll be a challenge to balance third year and GAMSAT for me. I’m happy that by the time i actually sit the ucat I’d have finished so I can focus on that for about 6-8 weeks. yes definitely!! do you plan on going to any open days?

It will be difficult but not impossible and i am sure you will smash it. I haven't thought of going on open days yet but if there are any after ucat then i might go 😅
