Is game design a good course at as a future?

And would University of Hertfordshire be a good place?

The easy answer is yes, it is a great course if you want a future career in an exciting industry, but you have to be extremely talented to get in and highly motivated. We are one of the best courses in the world for the subject. We've won the Rookies Award for best Games Art School four times (more than any other university worldwide) and our graduates work all over the world - from Nintendo, Bandai, Square Enix and Sony in Japan to Epic, Blizzard and Cloud Imperium in the USA to Creative Assembly, Rare, Splash Damage, Ubisoft and CD Projekt Red in the UK and EU. Our course is accredited by TIGA, which is the games industry's own advisory body and which represents game developers (and the best games universities) in the UK

If you are interested in applying then please watch this video which will explain the type of art we need to see and the quality level we want: https://vimeo.com/841286222

Hi there,
Thanks for your question and sorry for the delay in getting back to you.
Herts has a very strong reputation both in the UK and internationally in the field of game design - you can see our impressive rankings on our subject page. As a uni, we continually invest in the latest technologies so that our students have access to the most cutting-edge equipment.
In terms of careers, our courses prepare you for a range of exciting options in the industry, from animator to technical director.
We're running subject taster sessions in animation, games, film and media at our upcoming autumn open days if you'd like to talk directly to our academics. The October open day taster session is currently fully booked, so you could either book onto our November open day or would still be very welcome to come to the October open day this coming Saturday as places may become available for the subject session if attendees drop out. You can also find the relevant academics at the subject stand to have a chat to.
Hope this helps but let me know if you have any further questions.
All the best,
Gaynor

Don't know about the uni, but the gaming industry is bigger than the music and TV industries combined. They will always be needed.
