Medicine out of UK

If you completed 6 years of Medicine(including a year of internship) in Georgia, do you still need to apply for FY1 or are you granted full registration to transition into year 2?

Also is PLAB necessary?

Many thanks

For the question is PLAB necessary, it depends on when u graduate. EU graduates don't have to sit for PLAB, but starting from 2024, EU graduates need to sit for UKMLA (similar to PLAB).

As for FY1 or FY2, it depends on whether GMC recognise your 12mo internship in Georgia. So you will need to confirm that with GMC. If they recognise the internship, congratulations, you can proceed to apply for FY2 standalone programme or any equivalent non-training jobs.

However, if they do not recognise the internship (it may happen sometimes. I graduated from a Chinese university, did a six-year MBBS programme that included a year of internship. But after COVID, my seniors had difficulty getting full registration with the GMC even when they had the full 12mo of internship at the teaching hospital), you will have to apply to FY1.

A piece of advice is to keep in mind the deadlines and application window of both FY1 and FY2 application, since they usually only open once a year. That way, you can plan your route to UK more effectively. FY1 application usually begins with the eligibility application in July one year prior to the intended start date of FY1. On the other hand, the application window for FY2 usually opens in January, the same year as the intended start date of FY2. Both programmes usually start in August / September.

Hope this helps. I am applying for UKFP 2024.
