when do we apply for a student loan?

I've got my offer from Warwick to start in 2006, but does anyone know when gap year people have to apply for a student loan - especially because of all this top up fees stuff starting from 2006.

Not sure if it the new top-up fees will affect it but this year you just apply at the same time as everyone who will be going to uni in the same year i.e I should be applying now for 2005 entry, which I will when I get round to it.

If you've applied this year for deferred entry (so that you start uni in 2006), you don't have to apply for your loan and everything until about this time next year, but you need to keep hold of (and send in with your form when you do apply for the loan) the letter (dated before 1st August 2005) saying you have a place for deferred entry. Basically, you don't have to worry until next year!
