Edexcel GCSE Mathematics 1380 Foundation answers

I have had requests for Foundation answers so here they are:

1) Pictogram
Monday: 8 (1 mark)
Tuesday: 3 (1 mark)
Complete pictogram (2 marks)

2) Length of stick
5 cm (2 marks)

3) Percentages
50% of £60 = £30 (1 mark)
25% of 20 metres = 5 metres (1 mark)

4) Draw a line
Draw a line 7 cm long (1 mark)
Mark a point with a cross (1 mark)

5) Number sequence
Next term: 116 (1 mark)
7th term: 112 (1 mark)
9 cannot be a term as all the terms are even numbers (1 mark)

6) Shape on a grid
Perimeter = 16 cm (1 mark)
Area = 12 cm² (you must state these units) (2 marks)
Volume = 15 cm³ (2 marks)

7) Timetable
Arrive at Alton at 0830 (1 mark)
Time to get to Hexham = 17 minutes (1 mark)
Time of bus from Crook = 1015 (1 mark)

8) The number 4117
Four thousand one hundred and seventeen (1 mark)
Rounded to nearest 100 = 4200 (1 mark)

9) 3D shapes
Vertices of shape A (a cube) = 8 (1 mark)
Net of square-based pyramid = shape C (1 mark)

10) Cars
Speed = 58 miles per hour (1 mark)
Fuel = 3.6 gallons (1 mark)
You need to add 3.4 gallons to fill the tank (1 mark)

11) Coordinates
Point P = (4,6) (1 mark)
Point Q = (0,3) (1 mark)
Midpoint M = (2, 4.5) (2 marks)

12) Temperatures
Lowest = -4 degrees C (1 mark)
Difference between Cardiff and Plymouth = 7 degrees C (1 mark)

14) Order of operations
4 x 5 - 8 = 12 (1 mark)

15) Simplify
8x - 4x = 4x (1 mark)

4x + 3y - 2x + 5y = 2x + 8y (2 marks)

Ben is right, they are not parallel as 88 + 96 > 180 (2 marks)

First row: 15 25 14 54

Probability child walked to school = 37/100 or 0.37 (1 mark)

22) Compasses and rulers

23) Angles in a quadrilateral
a = 42 degrees (2 marks)

24) Equations

Rotate shape correctly (2 marks)
Translation 3 squares right and 1 square down (2 marks)

26) Rectangle
Opposite sides of a rectangle are the same length (1 mark)

29) Place value
3.22 x 4.8 = 15.456 (1 mark)
0.322 x 0.48 = 0.15456 (1 mark)
15456 divided by 4.8 = 3220 (1 mark)

30) Last question
x = 6 (or -6 if you like!) (2 marks)
72 as a product of its prime factors = 2 x 2 x 2 x 3 x 3 (2 marks)

It will be on the C/D borderline. Certainly not a fail as G is a pass grade!

okay- so they add both papers up. So its __ out of 200 to get a C it would have to be 175 out of 200?

165 may well be enough.

we were told the grade boundaries for last year for a C in foundation were 72% and they dont go up much or down much if at all..
so 78 would be a C? ..

no u need 75/100 in both so u would need 150/200 all together to get a C

btw, 4117 rounded to the nearest hundred is 4100, not 4200
whys it say 4200 :s-smilie:

err mate, 3117 to the nearest hundered is not 3200. its 3100, anyway its nice that you that you have given these people there answers, but be more careful. also, thanks for the answers to the higher exam.

OP are the questions/answers in the same order that they were in the exam? If so I missed the last two questions on the paper damn that's 7 lost right there :frown:
