Does anyone else feel scared if they see a chav?

Excuse me? I should have known you were a Labour supporter or a socialist.

"Oh chavs aren't bad people YOU'RE the bad person for discriminating against them"... blah blah blah blah ...

Please, just give me a break.

Yes, you are the bad person. No, I won't give you a break. You started this thread.

And you're an idiot.

Chavs choose it as a lifestyle choice.

You have implied that I'm "narrow minded" (which I am not) but you fail to see it from the other side.

Other than "you're discriminating against class" (again, which I am not) can you give some logical reasons for why you're being awfully defensive?

What's worse than a chav? A chav sympathiser.

Firstly, I dont quite like the way you have referred to (and collectivised) human beings into a sub-category, namely "chavs"

Secondly, why would you be scared? If you're scared of someone because of the way they're dressed/look then you're pathetic. If its a group of boisterous young teenagers (as opposed to that rather horrid term "chav"), for instance, then yes, you may feel intimidated. I like to think- rather naively perhaps- that people are generally nice to you if you go about your own thing in a way that doesnt cause harm to anybody else. No point in being paranoid because, as a Londoner, I'd never be able to do simple things like go to the local shop if I felt incessantly threatened.

Chavs where I'm from are harmless so I'm not really scared of them.

What scares me is the lack of intelligence/logic that some seem to have, and the sort of animal instincts that they use. I feel that any logical, intelligent person would not shoot/stab someone without a good reason, simply because the punishment makes the crime not worthwhile. Some chavs seem to lack this logic and that's what sort of unnerves me. Irrational people are unpredictable.

If I'm walking down a quite road with a group of them heading towards me, then yeah. I think this is a pretty logical reaction, in all my experiences with these vermins, about 4/10 times have been confrontational one way or another, they just find something to start on you to try and impress the rest of their gang of fagbags. Its always petty and pathetic, I've seen it all: jump in front of you, shout out ''oi mate'', throw a bottle, throw a sweet wrapper, try and touch you and then giggle like a pack of schoolgirls .....

This mostly.

Had one from a group scream "DEAD BIRD ON THE FLOOR!" as I walked past one. Seeing as I wasn't expecting it, they got the reaction they wanted of me jumping. >_>

Usually have them throw bad language at me if I 'overtake' them on the path (And no, I have no idea who they actually are nor do they know me)
I dobut any of the people posting in this thread defending the lower class have ever had a violent beating. Maybe been in a scrape, but never been grabbed by a group of 5+ lads who were all years older than them and been kicked to unconsciousness.

That happened to me when I was 15, baggy jeans and a skateboard was reason enough for it. I was grabbed from behind, punched in the head, knocked to the ground and kicked until I blacked out. Was woken up by a police officer and a paramedic. Suffered a cracked jaw (which still clicks 10 years later) bruised ribs and several other minor injuries.

I got off light.

People say we have no right to judge others because of the way they dress, or act. This is untrue. We have every right. If you see a group of lads walking down the street learing and shouting, swearing and spitting, one of them discards an empty beer bottle, smashing it in the street, etc, I'm sure you know the picture. Rest assured they need no reason whatsoever to attack you, and they will if the thought pops into their head.

It's just the way the UK works.

edit: would also like to point out CHAV does not mean council housed and violent, it's a reverse acronym (can't remember the proper definition) the word existed before the description was added.

Chav has got no life they just need to **** off.

In my experience it's all front and no substance - so no, I'm not scared!

A chav, no. A group of chavs, perhaps.

They'll probably beat you up due to that lack of confidence.

Does the label "bad person" have an objective definition?
They make me laugh. Look so cute strutting around in their Reebok tracksuit and Gola trainers.

Not one person has said you shouldn't judge a person by how they act. So that point is left redundant, in fact judging someone by the way they behave/act is what you should do.

I have to surpress my urge to punch them in the face. I mean I used to wear a shell suit and trainers, but I was ten and it was 1990....

its just a shame they aren't so flamable anymore. You'd never have any lighting problems in an area infested by Chavs, just 'light em up' and you've got instant entertainment as well as a lighting solution. So you can continue to read your copy of Leviathan to flickering 'Chav-Light'...

I'm sure there's a joke in there about a broken lightbulb that costs you £100 and tries to nick your car...

If I thought for a minute I could get away with it I'd plough a car into such a group. Unfortunately I couldn't, so wouldn't. I would however fully support exporting the problem to former oil platforms in the North Sea and the occasionally sinking one or two of them to keep those left on the mainland in line...

I tell you Brazilian style death squads would really help to cut the benefits budget...

I believe that it originates from Chatham in Kent, it was basically a term used to describe the dregs from around the Thames Esturary. Look it up in Wikipedia, I'm sure someone's gone to the bother of writing it up...
