Why is domestic abuse on the rise in the UK?

I think it could lead to a spike, but you're right, probably not of 31%.
Has there been any drastic changes at what constitutes as abuse recently? Perhaps that's changed the number of people who are now committing the crime of abuse.
I can't really think of any other significant social changes that have taken place in the last two years that could be related to this :dontknow:

Controlling behaviour is now classed as a form of domestic abuse. Controlling behaviour is where one partner (A) uses coercion to control the other partner (B).

One example could be A refusing to allow B to drive. Or A deciding when B is allowed new clothes. Or A controlling who B has contact with and for how long.

It is a form of abuse, although it is less visible than a black eye or any other form of physical violence.

More people are willing to come forward now because they feel that they will be believed and that the abusive partner will be prevented from having contact with the victim.

There has been an increase in the accurate portrayal of abusive relationships in the media. This may mean that more victims know that what is happening to them is wrong and where they can turn for help.

It can only be a good thing if more people can escape abusive relationships.

When did the law change?

Yeah, I agree. Hopefully this 31% increase is to do with more people getting out of abusive relationships then the rate of abuse increasing.
