AQA Alevel Physics beta decay graph question HELP

So there's this question we were looking at in class recently about beta decay and looks a bit like this: https://t2k-experiment.org/wp-content/uploads/betaspec.gif except for y axis it only labels it with 'number of beta minus particles with Ek' and doesn't give a scale but for x axis it does.

It gives you the max kinetic energy (1.2 MeV) but in the MS all it says is there is missing energy BEFORE 1.2 MeV. I'm a little confused why because to me its not obvious that there is missing energy.
Is the MS getting at the idea of the decay energy being shared between the beta minus particle and the electron anti-neutrino also released in the decay?
