Clubbing is only fun if you're attractive (guy) or easy (girl)

this is my opinion on the enjoyability of clubbing (fyi i am talking about mainstream clubs which play pop/r&b music).

the majority of people go to mainstream clubs with the thought, at least at the back of their mind, that they want some sexual fun. this will usually mean only kissing because most girls dont want to have sex with someone they dont know (or even someone they know because people will find out, gossip, friendships wont be the same etc).

for a guy, you need to be attractive (a combination of face, hair, body and height). this will get you the most attention from girls and will give you greater chance of success if you decide to try it on with a girl. lets face it, guys dont go clubbing for the enjoyment. you can easily listen to music and dance with friends at home instead of going to an expensive, over-crowded club full of idiots. once the novelty wears off after your 18th/freshers, only attractive guys will go for enjoyment (to get female attention and because they have a half decent chance of getting something sexual).

for a girl, you need to be easy and enjoy lots of casual sexual encounters. there is no end to the fun if you are this type of girl. you can be ugly and fat and still have fun if you are a girl this way. looks barely matter. dress sort of revealingly, wear makeup and you will still get it even if you are one of the ugliest, fattest girls around. this type of girl tends not to exist on tsr, where the general female population have conservative sexual views and look down on girls who are sexually liberal/slutty.

what are peoples thoughts on this?

Generally agree with a few amendments.

1. Men need not be physically attractive if they can DANCE. (drool) Or otherwise demonstrate some sort of status/coolness.

2. You don't have to be easy to enjoy it as a girl. I agree that it couldn't be easier for girls to get laid if they want to. But some are happy with the ego boost of a guy chatting them up/potential date. That was my category, when I was flying solo.

Ultimately the clubbing scene IS about hooking up, with the alcohol and trashy music and dinky lights it's all so facilitated in that direction. But it depends on the club. Some really are about the music. But most are about the tittilation. Ain't nothing wrong about it!

oh sorry i forgot to include this bit. yea i agree that its also fun for a female if you go for an ego boost.
As a seasoned clubber, I pretty much agree with everything you have put.
Not entirely, there is an escapism element where you can get enjoyment from just getting on the dance floor and absorbing yourself in the music however I do agree that is more likely to happen if you go to a club that plays your type of music (eg if you're into dubstep or rock/indie) rather than cheesy pop or r'n'b.

But yes I do agree that clubbing, or even socialising in general, are more enjoyable the more attractive you are because the likelihood of getting attention from the opposite sex (or the same if you're attractive and gay) is high when you go out so it makes it more exciting.

You see with sports people, musicians, actors etc, the ones that are particularly good looking are often ones who are out partying all the time sometimes to the detriment of their careers, and you see it at uni as well. If you're average looking then it's easier to make sacrifices of going out socialising, when you have to get down to serious work, but if you're really good looking then its hard to resist when you know there's the possibility of getting some action at the end of the night, or even just getting the ego boost of some attention during the night.

It only is about hooking up if that's your own aim. The clubbing scene easily caters for those who just want to go out for a good time without getting with someone else.

Obviously there's nothing wrong with going out to 'hook up' but the only way the clubbing scene is dictated to hook up is if you go in there with that attitude yourself. If you don't, it's easy to go to any mainstream club and have a good night without any of that pressure.

-----

For what it's worth, i'm not an attractive person and I enjoy every night out I go on. I don't put pressure on hooking up or anything like that and can't see why anyone would. It seems a bit desperate in my opinion. The majority of people I meet on nights out just go with the intention of having a good time. If the opportunity arises to pull, sure, take it. Why base your night around it though? More often than not you'll be coming home dissapointed.

If you're attractive you have an easier life in general. There's so many advantages.
Some of my friends say they're not happy if they go clubbing/to a party and DON'T make out with someone, even if it's someone they don't even like the look of. Oh being an 18 year old.... :|
Maybe it's different because I'm a girl but I'm now slightly worried that I don't understand clubbing at all! I go to dance and have fun with my friends. I know I could do that at home too but I like the atmosphere of most clubs - I actually enjoy it being crowded (maybe more so because I'm normally slightly drunk) and you can't get away with playing music that loud in a house. I have a boyfriend and I enjoy clubbing with or without him. When I was single I would sometimes kiss guys (and once went further) but that was never my aim when I went out and more of a result of being too drunk. Do a lot of guys really only go out to get action? I've never got that impression from my male friends but I could be wrong!

Of course. If we feel like chatting we go for a beer at the pub with the lads.
Obviously its flattering getting female attention. Its a nice bonus to going out especially in some clubs where from my experience its almost guarenteed to happen, but i don't go out hoping to get off with someone. If it happens then i'll happily go along but i haven't gone out aiming to pull, hardly anyone who i've been out with has. I'm not deluded though and i know a lot of guys DO go out aiming to bring someone home. When i go out i just want to enjoy myself with my friends, anything else is a bonus. So i usually come back from a night out in a good mood having enjoyed myself, this would not be the case if i go out aiming to pull.

Not really.... As long as you've got a good set of mates next to you, and stop being so self-conscious you can just flow with the night.

I think you're mistaking fun with pulling. Don't get me wrong it's fun to pull, but it's a much bigger laugh trying to chat up girls and failing when you've got your friends in the background laughing at your attempts.

The key to pulling isn't all to do with looks, you just need to be a good speaker.

This is the best attitude you can have...*

*Depends on if you can dance or not. I can't, it's more a waddling penguin impression, but y'know!

Chatting with girls is different to chatting with lads. It's very, very different.

Yeah, but when you want to chat with a girl you don't go to a club...

Not if i'm planning on having a chat, no. But most 'chats' are spontaneous anyway, so of course you'll get people chatting to girls at night clubs just because they fancied a chat.

Obviously you'll get just as many guys chatting to a girl 'cause he wants some, but that's not always the case. That's my point.
