Reputation of University of Sunderland

Dear All, I would require your help in this regard. I am in the process of finalizing the University of Sunderland for the course MSc in Environment, health and Safety for 2012 September entry. I happened to read the older post about the Univ saying that it is not a good place to study. Can anyone comment on the current situation looking at the Academic setup now? Kindly help

I will start a part-time teaching qualification there in September. When I went for an interview it looked nice. The location is good (right next to a Metro station) and all the buildings were brand new.

I do not plan to live in Sunderland so I cannot comment on that side of things. But really you should know - given you want to specialise in something - whether the university (i.e. the academics in the department) are good or not. There are more prestigious universities in the region if you are worried (i.e. Durham University and Newcastle University).

Sunderland university would be the very worse place to study unless you are prepared to be "compliant" (their word), never ask intelligent questions, nor question a teachers behaviour.

Can you expand upon this comment for the OP's benefit? A masters degree involves substantial financial outlay so it is important that they make an informed decision.
All I know is that they have a professor that can tell you if something will fizz, or if it will bang.
