Hello, Hi, Hiya or Hey???

*When greeting someone*

In your head: "Hello"
How it comes out: "Helloooo"
After thought: "Oh damn that sounded weird"

In your head:"Hello"
How it comes out: "Helo"
After thought: "That sounded a bit stern"

In your head: "Hi"
How it comes out: "Hi"
After thought: "That was a bit quick, did they hear me?"

In your head: "Hiya"
How it comes out: "Hi ya!!"
After thought: "Hold on while I go skip through a field of flowers..."

In your head: "Hey"
How it comes out: "Heeey"
After thought: "Woah i'm not american"

How do you greet someone without it sounding awkward?

I usually say "hey" or "hey, how are you?" to someone, but it depends who I'm speaking to. I would say "hello" if being introduced to someone's parents or something like that. :smile:

hey
hows it going?
alright?
alright (followed by name)

I usually either say "Hey" if i know the person quite well or "Hi" if it's someone i don't know too well :smile:

Although I've never used "Hiya" before...

Also, "Hello" sounds a little too formal for my liking especially when talking to friends...

I am over analysing it but I need to because whenever I greet someone I sound posh, retarded or have some sort of verbal problem.

I just feel awkward saying 'hi'. I usually say 'Alright' but I can't say that when it's some formal thing
