Hi, i asked this on the 6th form board but no response.

Im thinking about maybe going to college in september and taking my a levels. I was at 6th form in 04-05 then dropped out last november because i was bored of the enviroment and the subjects that i had taken, i chose them for the wrong reasons.

Im wondering are there alot of 18+ doing a levels at colleges, i dont mind being the oldest, but it would be nice to have people my age around me.

Thanks

That shouldn't be a problem - I think colleges have 19 as the upper age limit to let students onto alevels.

'A' levels at 18? I thought that's perfectly common!

I will start A2 when I am 18, finishing A levels when I am 19 (my birthday is 12th august)

Don't do it for the social aspect, do it because you want to. I'm 19 doing A2 for the second time around and I was worried about not knowing anyone but you soon make friends and forget about the age difference.
Yeah at my college there were alot of people over 18 doing A levels it wont be problem.

There are loads of people over 18 at my sixth form. One of my really good friends in fact is 19 and is in the exact same classes as me. I always tease him saying he is in year 14. Im mean. But yeah, it is perfectly normal.

Don't worry about ur age, it doesn't matter.

Not sure if this is the same but I had to re-take my AS year so I was 18 when I started AS again and 19 when doing the A2, it wasn't common for people to do that and I felt a bit left out, plus all my friends left to uni when I was in A2 and didnt get along with anyone at all, but i'm sure if it's a college and people are all in the same boat then it will be better :O

At our college, there's plenty of mature students taking an A-Level or two. In my classes there's also a guy who dropped out of uni when he changed his mind on career paths and came back to do his A-Levels again. He's 24 I think and fits in just fine; I think come this age people are mature enough to socialise with people of different ages without making a big deal of it.
In my AS history class there are quite a few people who are rather old..one man is in his 50's. Most of us are 17-20 though..

I'm 19 mate, and I've already done by A-levels previously (last year.) But I did really poorly, so my rents agreed to support for me for an extra year as long as I did well.
I shouldn't worry, we have a couple of 19 year olds and a 21 year old, and we have quite a small sixth form.

You'll be fine. I'm going to uni this year and I'm 23!

I think its a great idea to do A levels at 18. In my sixth form, I know about a dozen people who are 18/19 yrs of age, and are taking AS/A levels.

I stayed on through Year 14 at sixth form, so I carried on doing A-levels at 18through to 19 (1 A2 which I stayed on for and 2 AS). Sounds good to me.
kk thanks guys. I think ill get some more info about it, and see what i would like to do.
