Hey. Since I'm a current student at HWSF I'll be more than happy to answer your questions.
Harris Westminster is a motivating factor for the increased amount effort I put into my studies and academic related activities I do at home and school. Learning is never easy but the teachers are not gong to spoon feed you. It's our responsibility to got to our teacher if we don't understand something and trust me when I say they are more than willing to help us. However due to the chance of having people around you who are more brilliant than you are I would say there would be no need for you to go to a teacher unless they themselves didn't understand the concept/question you are struggling with. This is a understanding which I completely agree with. It can be a challenging environment at times as all subjects will have something that you would need to ponder on and deliberate.
The commute is okay. Around a hour from doorstep to doorstep.. More than enough time to do more extra-reading on the train to school and back.
The teaching is excellent. Our teachers honestly love the subject the teach and their not afraid to show it. Believe it or not their enthusiasm can sometimes be infectious. They are good in their subjects they're teaching, all the teachers I know at the school graduated from top universities in the Country. (Cambridge, UCL)
There are house parties which are organized by our head of house. Though I never attended any I heard some of them were good. If you're referring to parties outside of school I cannot say. My social circles doesn't crosslink with people who organize parties with other students of HWSF.
The best thing are looking at historical documents(from the 17th Century) in History. Unfortunately for you I don't have anything to complain about. I'm completely enjoying my time here studying and socialising.

Now may I ask you a question.
Are you attending any of the Open Days?

Thanks for the responses, which I found very informative

What School does your Child Currently go to

A Harris school in South London he is on the G&T programme, however I really dont want him dissapointed If he is not successful. Which is why there are 4 six form colleges we are applying for. Were you previously at a Harris Secondary Academy? Apologies Babs we missed the open days as he is completing his assessments, interestingly enough the Academy did not offer work placements.

I recently applied for the sixth form but haven't heard back from them in a while now. Anything to be worried about?

Unless they have dramatically changed the way they test, you should know the subjects of courses you will be examined in at the GCSE level (or equivalent). If you have done more of your course then great, if you haven't covered as much yet (I know it is only half-way through the academic year), then better start self-learning .

They should also take into account the exam board you are currently on to make it all be a bit more fair, since there's a chance the exam will be more tailored towards one exam board.

Also, they have example questions of what to expect to come up on the link here: http://www.harriswestminstersixthform.org.uk/57/entrance-examinations

Hope this helps!
