How to get work experience in Film and Television?

I have recently graduated from university with a degree in Filmmaking, and have found myself in the quite predictable position of not having a clue what to do next...

I must have looked at around a hundred job sites, and googled the same questions so many times my fingers have nearly fallen off and it seems like the answer is just impossible to find.

Is there such thing as a website or forum that offers the opportunity to apply for runner/production assistant roles in Film and TV? Or a place where jobs are posted that I can apply to without having to sign up and pay monthly for that privilege? Any advice I can get would really be helpful, apologies for the long question.

Hi @Awobidybobbob

Congratulations on graduating!

I'm sorry you've had such difficulty finding work in these kinds of roles, I wonder if you have checked out the Screen Skills website? It has undergone a recent update and now specialises in investing in skills driving the success of UK film, TV, VFX, animation and games. It may be worth exploring this website, particularly the jobs board which I have included the link to below:
https://www.screenskills.com/vacancies/search/#/

You may also want to look into large broadcasting companies if you have not already as they often have work experience courses and graduate schemes. You can find more information about this by contacting the advisers on the National Careers Service helpline which is 0800 100 900.
They can offer you free careers advice as often as you need it anytime between 8am and 10pm every day. You can also contact them on this website:
https://nationalcareersservice.direct.gov.uk/contact-us/home

I hope this helps to get you started and good luck in finding your first graduate job!

The only reliable way I can think of, that would allow anyone to get a job in filming, is either to have a famous actor/filmmaker parent or to physically trace somebody important within the industry and bribe him or her somehow.

And actually, there are quite many actresses around the world, who admitted, that in order to get a role in a film or TV show, they had to bribe a director or sbd. like that by offering them sexual services, and some even say this is perfectly common only most people don't talk about it.

The OP isn’t looking for acting jobs

Mandy? Artsjobs?

The way I know to get involved in film is to email individual organisations asking about opportunities.
Just do some research and shoot over an email with this format:

1) A short opening hook demonstrating why you love film and/or want to work in it.
2) Demonstrate interest in joining that organisation.
3) Sum up what you think you could offer best of all.
4) End with a call to action.

This is what I did when I worked for a Film Festival last year. Hope it helps.

Financial bribery still seems the most reliable, since far too many people want to work there, and filmmakers don't post job advertisements.

Hiive contains a steady flow of entry and trainee level posts throughout the year.
What an ignorant and gross response.
