The information on Imperial's site, on the page you've linked to, says " Mortar boards are not a part of the College’s academic dress" (emphasis mine).

I confess I only looked at the pictures which clearly show mortar boards for undergrads academic dress.

it could be like LSE - not a formal part of the academic dress, not worn on stage but most people order one for photos :/
