Entry Requirements

Hi,
I'm looking at studying medicine with 2024 entry. My A-Levels predictions are AAC (with a C in geography which I know I can easily get to an A)
I've got 6 grade 7's 3 grade 6's and 1 grade 5 at GCSE.
I've done a fair bit of research but just want to know people's opinion on what unis would be best to apply for with the grades listed. I'm particularly interested in; Newcastle, Liverpool, Kent, Hull/York, Edge Hill, Exeter, and St. Georges. (I'm from Liverpool)
Hey there, thanks for posting a question in the Medicine forum.

If you are not predicted AAA then Newcastle, HYMS, Edge Hill, Exeter and SGUL will not shortlist you, as they check A levels for minimum requirements.
Exeter has needed at least A*A*A* predicted for many years. Other than that, it depends on your UCAT, and nobody can advise without this, but you would need a very high UCAT to make recent cut offs for HYMS given your GCSEs

So what UCAT score would be a “Minimum”. I’ve looked at pharmacy and done work experience and thoroughly enjoyed that, would you think that would be more appropriate? Are there any unis that don’t look at predicted grades for medicine? seems like i’m screwed here

i’m also first generation uni so contextual offers would be available?

You would need to meet another contextual requirement eg. living in an area of low income etc to be eligible for contextual offers from HYMS and many other of the medical schools, I am a current offer holder for HYMS and I am also first generation but my offer is AAA!

I got 5 GCSE grade 9’s and the rest 8 and got a UCAT score of 2770 and secured my interview with HYMS for the 2023 entry, I would say you would most likely need a score in the 2900+ with your GCSE’s, however I can’t say for certain!
