Gcse grades

I am a year 12 A-level student studying biology chem and psych.I want to go into medicine but i know many unis look at gcse grades however i only got one grade 8 and one grade 7,and i know that unis want 5 grade 7 and above. i am thinking of retaking my gcse after my a levels and was wondering if this was possible.I was also wondering if unis would consider me to do medicine if i acheived grades like AAA in my A levels despite my gcse grades

You will still need to meet the minimum GCSE requirements for the universities you apply to. Unfortunately, getting good A-levels will not remove the need to meet GCSE requirements - and in fact most applicants will have AAA or higher at A-level. So whilst they are excellent A-level grades, they will not make you stand out. Look carefully at entry requirements, and apply strategically to universities which don’t place as much emphasis on GCSEs within their selection criteria. As to whether you currently meet any universities’ minimum requirements - I don’t know, that will need to be some careful research on your part uni by uni, looking at entry requirements. But yes, if you don’t currently meet minimum requirements anywhere but you do get the A-level grades, then definitely worth resitting GCSEs. Best of luck.

there are around 12 medical schools you can apply for with those grades as long as you have eng lang and maths at grade 6 only around 4 actually require 5 the rest require around 6 and above just check minimum entry requirement i am in a similar situation and have read up a lot about this i would also check your eligibility for foundation year programs
