You can apply to both, and it is not likely to reduce your chances of getting into law per se. However, you may find it difficult to write a personal statement for both (you only get one). You could focus on the shared concepts like logic, but I'd argue that those concepts are only really shared under a very shallow examination and that you would compromise your application to the more competitive course (law, obviously).

You could, however, keep a law personal statement, and still apply for the different course. A friend applying for medicine got an offer for Astronomy and Astrophysics (although that's slightly different - you can only apply for a maximum of 4 medicine places out of 5 possible applications, so they're more willing to make allowances). I'm tempted to say you might well still get an offer for maths with a law application.
