Why do People Have a Problem with Gay People?

Title says it all. I simply do not understand the reasoning behind the pure hatred that some people have for the LGBT community. The only bit I understand is that they think that the physical act of having sex with someone of the same sex is a bit ... disturbing? I can sort of get how off-putting that is for someone who is straight.

But, they don't have to engage in that activity, watch it, or talk about it - so then again... Why should they bother? Why do some people completely reject same sex relationships?

I am gay, so maybe I'm being a little biased. But I have the right morals when it comes to equality, across the spectrum, and I don't understand why people feel the need to concern themselves with fuelling hatred. Surely these people know the world would be a better place if everyone was accepting?

Why damage that? What do people think? Why do people think like this? Thanks.

Because they're different to the norm. Nobody likes people who are different.

That was, to say, that people are scared of difference, not that I have a problem with people who are different.

Some people just can't accept people who are different.

I don't accept it because of religious beliefs and the pure fact that I don't think its 'natural'.
I mean natural in the sense of how I see God had created us..

It's because people are deluded by their fear and ignorance.

There isn't anything unnatural to do with homosexuality, and rights for LGBT individuals shouldn't differ from the rights that heterosexual individuals have.

A popular argument against homosexuality is that if we allow gay marriages to occur, then people will soon start marrying off their siblings, parents or pets. If you think clearly for a few minutes it becomes clear that this is a logical fallacy. There is no proof that B will happen because of the fact that A has happened, the link between the 2 events is simply hypothetical and there is no evidence for it, so it becomes entirely useless.

Most people wouldn't really have too much of a problem with homosexuals even though they might disagree with homosexuality. Modern day society is trying to force everyone to automatically accept homosexuals and if they don't, it questions those peoples morals, calling them homophobic etc. I think when this comes into play that's when people start feeling more strongly against homosexuality.

The argument that marrying your pet is somehow the same as marrying someone of the same sex (who is a human!) is just absolute lunacy. I'm sorry, but that's just outrageous. I can't see how people can use that argument and keep a straight face at the same time!

In fear of going into a full-blown religious argument, I'm just going to say this. For a God who "regards all people the same" and "loves us all equally", (for I believe this is what Christians think), I don't know how you can say, "Well, actually, homosexuals are wrong".

Contradiction? And seriously... It's one of many.

Ah, but do you act on this belief, such as discriminating against someone you know to be gay? Or do you just quietly not accept them but not let it affect how you treat them?

It more to do with discrimination, I think. It's not about forcing you to accept them, it's about letting them have equal rights.
Because the vast majority of people are ignorant simpletons. Why do you think 10% of the population earn 90% of the income? Why do you think only about 10% of the population only contribute or innovate anything for the progression and benefit of society and mankind? This is why. It is a fact of life.

People mock what they don't understand.

I see being gay as a mental condition. A condition imposed by the persons brain or body, not as a conscious decision.

She says as she posts on the internet, using a computer, whilst sat in a house, with heating... All natural right there.
there was a study that revealed that homophobic people were more likely to be turned on by gay porn, suggesting they are simply finding it difficult to come to terms with their latent homosexuality, and therefore use reaction formation (suggested by Freud) making them feel homosexuality is unacceptable, so they project this view onto others.

Such an ignorant way to think about it.

Humans are as natural as you can possible get, and this includes their mentality, sexuality and thinking.

Why are some animals found to be gay? Animals aren't even capable of conscious thought.

Unfortunately, many people were brought up with intolerant views and don't possess the ability to create their own thoughts and fully reason with themselves why being gay is alright. Sometimes the intolerance is a reaction to their own fears.

However the amount of people who are intolerant of gay people is greatly decreasing. Thankfully in many places now gay couples are getting the same rights as straight couples and the support for this is evident looking at Facebook and the equals profile images.

Because people are people and you can never please everyone
They just don't understand Gay people I guess or more like don't want to understand.

Personally, I don't care whether someone is straight or gay or whatever else. It doesn't make a difference to my life, so why should I have a problem with them?

I don't even know why they argue against it, It doesn't even affect them

I am also getting sick of threads about gays. Please can we just keep stop making them, there should be a 'Big Gay Rights Thread' or something. There are too many talking about the same thing.
Moved this to society

You just have to accept that not everyone thinks the same way. Some people just don't like gay people because to them it is not the norm, which is just one reason amongst many in their beliefs.

No problem with them persay id rather not see my line broken by one though...
I've learnt that people like superiority, and to be superior you need people beneath you. It makes people feel good to know that they're in a position to dictate what's wrong and right, hence, homophobes, saying how wrong it is to be gay.( In my opinion.)

I also think that some of them have been indoctrinated to feel that homosexuality is wrong, and that it should only be man and woman, by, parents, religions etc...
Which is sad, because those who are so influential shouldn't be teaching hatred, nothing good comes of hatred, but they should teach acceptance.

Also, I find the whole gay sex issue thing a bit odd. Heterosexual couples can also practice anal sex...and use toys etc
