The Student Room Group

Londoners, will you simply stay at Mum and Dad's?

The Housing Crisis is ridiculous. We are not going to be able to afford to buy homes. However paying 1000+ a month for rent alone is high street robbery. for those who also think this is simply too much but really want to stay in london for jobs, nightlife etc what will you do?

Stay at mum and dads forever?

Bear in mind this could effect social cues for our generation. Do you really wanna be bringing back boys/girls to your parents house? or friends to socialise? etc etc. independence is felt and appreciated by many who go to uni. Will that now have to be sacrificed due to the exorbitant house/rent prices?

PS this is for aimed at those who have graduated and are trying to get a job/start a career. Also aimed at anyone seeking to start a life in london after graduating

Haha of course I'll move out as soon as I get married. For now tho, I will have to casually enjoy sharing a house and eating curry everyday.
Is the student accomodation £1000 a month? o.o how do any students manage that?

Looking at the latest news that could take years...Decades if you're not in the right field
and this is why allowing more people in to the country isn't a smart idea....
I'm a student at the moment but once I've finished my degree... yep, back to mum and dads, basically. :L
Ofcourse

It seems that the UK is moving towards renting, just like a number of European countries.

I think the higher priced houses are for those who can actually afford it. There's nothing wrong with living in London suburbs for £500 a month and commuting.

Graduates need to SAVE their money. Even things like parents asking for rent (which I know a lot of families who do this), is just a waste of money..Save everything, so you can use it as your down payment. If you save up £10k yourself over about 5 years after graduating, you would be around 26ish....and get share a mortgage with your partner ...there's your 20k deposit there. It's hard yes..but it's not impossible. You can get a house with a partner, before the age of 30, if you think about it. But you might need to prepare yourself for not having any spending money.
