Why not 1/5 *1/5 because there is a 1/5 probability of finding a fridge magnet

How do i knwo when to use 1 and an actual probability in questions for the exam!?

There's no "easy" answer. In general you need to read the question and find a mathematical way of describing what's going on that allows you to find the probability.

It's basically practice and doing lots of examples.
