do people (non- Christians) celebrate Christmas and Easter for the wrong reason?

I feel as now (and I am guilty of this) many people celebrate Easter for the Sunday roast and the chocolate eggs rather than for the death and resurrection of Jesus (or if you non religious like me and many others charity, helping the poor, spending time with family etc). I also feel it is the same for Christmas people (or shall I say children and myself) are simply excited for their Christmas gifts or that mummy and daddy brought them an IPhone X. These events have become far too commercialised and should be about spending time with family appreciating what you ALREADY have but people like me and the generation will never understand... seriously I see kids on YouTube getting 60 presents a year each showing barely any signs of gratefulness. Well I guess you can do whatever you want with your money ...
I don't do anything at easter and as an atheist only really do anything for christmas because my family are religious themselves. I do think every holiday is very commercialised these days .
i think thats a problem in society in general. you shouldnt be grateful for what you have 1 day of the year, you should be grateful every day.

People complain too much about "over-commercialisation". Don't like it? Don't take part, lol. I don't see anything wrong with giving presents and somebody needs to cater to this.

People already spend time with family, they just give extra effort on special occasions, what is the problem with this? Ungrateful and selfish people will be like this regardless.
No, I don't think so.
Religious people tend to have religious preferences and priorities, less religious and secular people often have entertainment and social preferences.
There is plenty of opportunities for everyone to participate, religious or not.

Celebrations like Easter, Christmas, Diwali, Holi, Vaisakhi and Passover- all provide fantastic social opportunities in a harmonious multicultural society for everyone to share stories, food and exchange gifts.
My best friend made me a giant vegan chocolate easter egg with lots of added glycerin and fedex brought it to me from india.
I've had loads of gifts from israel, norway and bangladesh too.

If I enjoying celebrating Christmas and I'm not hurting anyone, what's the issue with it? I respect other people's reasons for celebrating and don't see a problem with it. Religion is supposed to be inclusive so why not just let people celebrate?
I have loads of chocolate and stay inside so not too festive religiously.

Extremely commercialised
it's not that people including myself that are celebrating it that's the problem for me it's why they (and myself) are doing it that's the problem

Hey, i’m A Muslim, and, while i dont celebrate these things, if there is more chocolate on sale in Easter, or a greater variety of gifts at Christmas time, i’ll take it, sure.

Every holiday has some sort of commercial element to make money, such as valentines day, Birthdays, Mothers day etc. But its people's choice to celebrate these things in the way that they want, a lot of people now don't believe in Christianity. I'm a Sikh and so is my family, we celebrate Christmas as it's excuse to get the family together which is very hard to do normally, and the only people who get presents are the Children, adults don't.

Agreed.

The last two christmas’ I stayed in my flay and just called home. These times of the year have been ruined by businesses selling for them months in advance and they make no sense anyway. Christmas would be a lot better if it was still the old tradition rather than the religious story it has been abused into now. And Easter is meant to celebrate an act of fairytale zombie nonsense.

Can’t these things die out and we just spend a bit of time with people rather than have any supposed baggage along with it?
