Vectors

There are a couple of things I just don’t get.

Here is the question an attachment. It’s number 14.

Why are the points C and A referred to in lower case at the start of the solution.?

And why does b = c + AC.

A ... are the points, a ... are (positiion) vectors, AC is a vector connecting points A and C, so the position vector of C relative to A.

For B, a sketch helps but if you know the centre and one end of the diameter, the other end is ...

Oh. Thank you. I had drawn a circle with a chord, not a diameter. I’ve reread the question and it all makes sense now. Silly me.

Note a quicker/more direct way would have been to sub lambda=5 into the original equation.
