factors effecting bond strength

when it comes to ionic bonds why would the ionic radius effect the strength of the ionic bonds

and when it comes to covalent bonds how do the lone pairs of electrons effect covalent bond strength
can u explain it in detail in gcse/a level standard

Smaller ionic radius, greater charge density. Greater electrostatic attraction to oppositely charged ions. More energy required to break ionic lattice.
For the covalent bond question, do you mean lone pairs affecting the bond angles in covalent bonded molecules or atoms. Read electron pair repulsion theory https://www.chemguide.co.uk/atoms/bonding/shapes.html#:~:text=Lone%20pairs%20are%20in%20orbitals,109.5%C2%B0%20to%20107%C2%B0.
