no work experience

will this significcantly lower my chances if i have no actual work experience or exta curricular acctivities to put on my application

It depends what course you are applying for, naturally. For History etc, it won't matter much.

Depends on the course and the universities. I literally had nothing like that, and it worked out alright for me.

depends what you're applying for. Generally nobody cares about ECs though work exp. may be a more important factor.

what about a film production course or journalism, i know it would be ideal but would it significantly ruin my chances? i got BBB for my as levels and 2 of the unis im considering are York St. John and Oxford Brookes

If you achieve that at A Level it shouldn't really matter. They only ask for 240 points, and you would have 300.

Do those unis even do Journalism courses, though? I can't find them listed on their websites.

No that shouldn't matter. On your PS write how about you intend to do some journalism work experience at uni and in the future etc. which will help your chances.
