What Happened to the Way GCSE's Work?

Hey guys,

I am 13, and am going to be starting year 9 in the next week.

I got really confused by trying to understand what exactly happened to the way GCSE's were handled. I have realised that the government made major changes.

Recently, I found out that in the past people can choose a lot of GCSE's. However, the amount my school could do was around 7-8. It involved around 6 core subjects, a decision between Geography and History. And 1 extra subject, like GCSE ICT or Food Technology.

However, I heard that people could take more, going into double digits. So why can't I?
I am one of the smartest students in my year groups.

Thanks in advance!

It depends on your school. Some schools allow students to do more GCSEs than others. I had 9 GCSEs (in 2013) and was only given the choice to pick 2 which i really wanted to do whilst the rest were compulsory

I don't think it depends on my school. I think every school has to follow the same system..? So I've heard.

Depends on your school. I went to an Catholic school so R.E was compulsory and as it was ICT specialist, Ict was also compulsory so we were given the option to pick 2 subjects.
Geo or History.
PE, DT,Art, graphics, music ,
They are cutting down the line between rich and poor so now everyone gets the same results and not like 11 only like 6 or 7, private or state school doesn't matter they are very similar now.

Oh. But I really would have liked to obtain more GCSE's than that...

We haven't changed the number our students do - there is no restriction to 8 by the Government or anyine else.

Didn't the school explain? Are you starting them in Year 9 as some syllabuses are still draft.

Didn't you get an Options Booklet? We also run an evening for parents to explain the choices.
Number of GCSEs isn't that much of a big deal anyway

Kemi is right, it depends on your school :yep:

Do them privately. Numbers don't matter that much tho.

Not true at all.
Some states schools have students doing 13 to 6 GCSEs

How would I do them privately?
