Its not a bad place, afraid I can't say much about the uni, but i've moved here and its nothing spectacular but the live music scene isn't bad.
It depends what kind of place you want to live in, its no big happening city but Birmingham is really close.

One of my mates went to do History of Warfare (or something like that) at Wolverhampton and he really enjoys it.

Like everyone else! I live not far and Wolves is a real dive. The only reason I travel in is for Gigs and the occasional trip to the indoor climbing wall there

Just as bad (I live there).

Wolverhampton is a crap city, and it seems to be getting worse.

I don't think there's one stand-out thing that makes it so bad, it's just that there are few, if any, positive points to it.

The only time I go there is for a gig at the Wolves Civic Hall or to the rock club 'Planet' which is slightly out of the way of the more mainstream clubs that attract trouble.

The Uni speaks for itself, it ranks near bottom for most things it's tested on (apart from plagiarism apparently lol).

Loads of people from my year group at school are in their second and third years there for various doss degrees, I have no idea how when none of them did any A Levels or college courses :s-smilie:

So yeah, to summarise, Wolverhampton and it's Uni, and nearby Walsall, are horrible areas with next to nothing going for them.

Birmingham has it's bad points but is actually miles better despite being relatively close.
Ha Wolv is my insurance at a 200 point offer, yeah if I don't hit my 280 point offer for MMU I'm not going to Wolv, i'll just ring them up and be hey I'm not going..
i don't see what the problem with wolves is!
moved there in sept to study photography there,
and i'm really happy with it all.

I live in Finchfield, Wolverhampton and love it. Its leafy, on the edge of beautiful Shropshire with good schools, a lovely park and a good community spirit. Where else in the UK could you buy a 5 bedroomed house in such a good area for less than 200k? As for the city centre and inner suburbs - welcome to the real world. You shower of Tarquins and Charlottes are privileged tourists experiencing life as lived by the majority of people. Wolverhampton has parallels with many post industrial towns and cities in the UK. Stop complaining, study hard get a job, work your butts off then f@&* off back to where you came from.
I know this is a generalisation but in my experience Wolvo and Black Country people of whatever culture are amazing: that is quite a complement, coming from a north eastener.

I'm afraid it was, type it into google.

A load of people have disputed it. it isn't necessarily scary though, but just really depressing and it doesn't have a lot to offer.

on a buzzfeed article, if you believe those..

I'm at the uni in Wolves, and its good. Lots of nightlife, lots of shops, bars, etc.
Birmingham is 20 mins by train, so if anything's not good in Wolves, go Birmingham for it.
Manchester is close by to Wolves as well, and Alton Towers is one train stop away (Stoke on Trent)!
The uni itself has just had a major science block built (formerly MB Building), and is currently having a new business school built opp. MX Building (formerly MK / MJ Buildings).
Massive library, students union has re-vitalised itself and a new career's centre with Volunteer Central (jobs area) is superb!

My advice: come to the next open day on the 13th June, or 15th August.
You can register here: http://www.wlv.ac.uk/about-us/news-and-events/open-day/

If you can't make those dates, just get a Megabus or train to Birmingham, have a walk around, get a feel for the city, and then head to Wolverhampton and do the same: walk around the high street (straight road from the station past weatherspoons and britannia hotel), and visit the university to see what the surrounding area is like.
If you don't like it, then go for Salford. If you do, accept the offer.

Hope it helped.

Adam.

Not one place is the best place for accommodation Daisy.
I'm at Victoria Halls (£85 standard & £92.50 deluxe 2015/16 rates) and I LOVE IT!
It's cheaper than North Road which are also en-suite rooms, you are allowed mini-fridges unlike any Uni accommodation (see banned items here pg7: http://www.wlv.ac.uk/media/wlv/pdf/Living_In_Accommodation_Guide_12-13.pdf
University's own Browzer page: http://www.browzer.co.uk/wlv/what-to-bring-to-uni_2369

Because I am a kind gent, I will post all the links to as many halls I can think of in Wolves:
Private Halls:
Victoria Hall: http://wolverhampton.victoriahall.com/f-a-q/

Chambers 51: http://freshstudentliving.co.uk/location/wolverhampton/chambers-51-wolverhampton/
Five Ways: http://www.prodigy-living.co.uk/cities/wolverhampton/fiveways-house/

Uni Owned Accommodation: http://www.wlv.ac.uk/study-here/accommodation/

Lomas Street (aka Standard): http://www.wlv.ac.uk/study-here/accommodation/accommodation-overview-/city-campus/standard/
North Road (En-Suite): http://www.wlv.ac.uk/study-here/accommodation/accommodation-overview-/city-campus/ensuite/

Hope this helped.

Just a heads up guys - the majority of posts on this thread are from back in 2011; it's highly unlikely those people still post on TSR :parrot:

Wolverhampton although a city is more like a town it got its city status back in the turn of the millennium (2000). Why it is not a city simply because it's amenities and infrastructure is not like Birmingham, Manchester, Leeds...... Etc. Daytime isn't so bad you will find some popular high street brands to a extent such as topman, river island, primark, next but they are small in size then what they should be for city centre shopping but that's it there's no h&m, tk maxx, zara or Debenham etc so you know what I mean it's not like Birmingham shops are massive. Over the last few years (2010-onwards) there's to many payday loans, betting shops and pound stores opened up, why is there could be to do with the fact that it's representing the people living in the city at this moment in time which isn't a great sign. There's not any good places to eat either pizza hut shut down no pizza express chiquito etc again missing high street names maybe there not attracted to spend there investments to many kebab shops. There was plans for a £350 million regeneration plan but it collapsed during the recession as the irish investment company which was to invest half the amount with the council went bump. Car park on the meter to expensive 60p for 20 mins that's more expensive than Birmingham. Night life, now back in 2000 which was my era of night out wolves was brilliant buzzing heaving all the way up till 2006/2007 but a few stabbings in city centre one by one the clubs were just shutting down revolution, varsity, oceana all closed it's a ghost town at night. So as student you will be let down if you do move to wolverhampton you will have to travel to Telford or even better merry hill shopping centre(Brierley Hill, dudley) if you want a good shopping experience and for night out just tram to birmingham on the tram..SORTED!!!
I live in Wolverhampton and study in Birmingham. Wolverhampton is the single most depressing place I have ever been and the fact that me, a student, can afford to live slap bang in the city centre by myself kinda says something about the city haha! Birmingham is just a much bigger and slightly less depressing Wolverhampton with less unemployed permanently drunk people and more stabby stabby gimme your wallet people drinking stella on the street at 9:30am. I lived in Hockley last year (which is a pretty awful part of Brum), and in the 8 months I was in that house, on my street alone there was a stabbing, multiple gun fights involving the police helicopter, an arson, the arrest of a murderer and more robberies than there has been ever. Also the Westminster terrorist lived down the street from me. Not gonna lie, the train ride between my flat and uni is the classiest place for miles.
Coventry is the best
