Another one crying over something pointless. Grade boundaries are decided by the general performance of everyone across the country who sat the two papers. You cannot argue or cry about the grade boundaries being too high. So what if you don't get the A*? It's not the end of the world. You can continue to live just fine with an A.

I'm a human being who has personal goals. What you might be content with someone else might be not. So don't go around clicking on threads that you will won't clearly enjoy. Shows how interesting your life is. I would be content with an A in any other subject, just not maths because of my OWN personal journey. Anyways scurry along with your pathetic trolling life style.

Your own personal journey? Right. Maybe you should take a break from maths and write a fictional book.

Relax.

The boundaries tend to be set such that the variation in grades between two years is not all that high. Once the overall stats come out, if the total proportion of a*s is down by a significant amount, you might have reason to think Edexcel's conduct was harsh or unfair. Otherwise, you have to accept that enough people scored sufficiently highly to warrant such a boundary, and that's that.

I'm not saying they should, I'm saying the boundaries should match the difficulty of the paper not about the amount of people that complain about a 3 mark question about sweets like they did last year.

Others have already explained why the grade boundaries are the way they are, so I won't bother.

I understand you're nervous about results day, so good luck with it. But getting an A is still really good and you should still be proud if you get that.

Fair enough. Life will go on.

Thanks, it's just that the boundaries were a real slap in the face because it wasn't what i was expecting. I'll still probably be happy with an A.

Loool are you finished? Do you feel better about yourself? What have you achieved by saying this? Want a cookie, troll?

Why would I feel better about myself? I'm simply trying to say that an A* is not much different from an A as far as A-Level entry requirements are concerned for any subject (Maths and FM), and most universities do not care about your GCSE's because you'd have A-Levels in place of them. Missing out on an A* doesn't mean you're bad at the subject so I don't understand what the big deal is. I'd understand your concern if this was an A-level as that can dictate your university place but if that's how you want to play it out with a GCSE then go ahead with your own journey.

Good luck on Results Day.

By the way you say you got 168 from unofficial mark-schemes being harsh on yourself. You may well therefore be underestimating the number of method marks you will attain. Just 2 more raw marks beyond a supposedly harsh judgement, not hard to imagine. Is there a practical reason you need an a*, or is it a matter of personal satisfaction? Not that I do not sympathise with the latter.

You're not understanding. It has nothing to do with universities and a levels, Or about how many a*'s I get because i really don't care, It's about putting work in to something with no hope whatsoever and managing to be so close to achieving something your teacher told you wasn't possible, that I even told myself wasn't possible.

Yeah I really hope so, Loool there is no pratical reason why I need an a* if i'm being honest as i do not plan to do further maths in september. Just the satisfaction of defying teachers expectation and even personal expectations.

so i've just seen the edecel gcse grade boundaries. (hoping its fake) .170 MARKS FOR AN A* ARE YOU KIDDING ME? ARE YOU HAVING A LAUGH? A GIGGLE?

I started september with a c in maths. I told myself I was not going to get a c or even a b in maths because I felt like I could do better. So September through December I worked my butt off and ended up with an A. An A was all i was aiming nothing more, nothing less.At this point my teacher was hella proud of me and told me to push for an a* as I had a few months left.So I did.A week before the exam I was averaging high 80's and low 90's. I was content. Then I done the june 2015 paper and managed to get a 95. The paper was so controversial.Yet so very easy. I looked at the grade boundaries and laughed 155? seriously. A week goes by, I sit my edexcel gcse maths paper, i started to panic at the beginning because my mind couldn't believe I was sitting my actual maths gcse.Anyways this panic led me to make dumb mistakes e.g. forgeting to write units, key on stem and leaf, converting units, dividing properly ( i wrote 6/3=3 in an algebra question and many more) therefore i lost marks, alot of them. I ended up with 168 in total after numerous unofficial mark schemes and being harsh with myself.the 2016 gcse maths paper was definitely harder than 2015. So i thought the grade boundaries would stay the same if not lower. LITTLE DID I KNOW EDEXCEL LOOKED AT MY MARKS AND SAID NOPE LETS MAKE THE BOUNDARY 2 MARKS HIGHER SHE DOESN'T DESERVE IT. IF THOSE GRADE BOUNDARIES ARE TRUE I WILL NEVER EVER SIT AN EDEXCEL PAPER AGAIN IN MY LIFE, ( I WILL GO TO A COLLEGE THAT IS NOT AFFLIATED WITH EDEXCELS ********)
ANYWAYS I DONT DESERVE THIS AND NONE OF THE OTHER PEOPLE WHO WAS DESPERATE TO SCRAPE AN A*
ITS NOT ABOUT GETTING ALOT OF A*'S FOR ME IT'S JUST THAT I ACTUALLY TRIED.I REVISED THE NIGHT BEFORE FOR ALL MY EXAMS AND I HAVEN'T EVEN BOTHERED TO LOOK AT THE BOUNDARIES FOR OTHER SUBJECTS.

They didn't personally abuse you and victimise you, they raised the grade boundaries. Get some sense of perspective here and wait until Thursday to see what your mark is before you start whinging.

I'd rather get a head start but thanks for the very much appreciated advice.I definitely won't be that person whinging on Thursday, I will collect my results and leave.

What is it with people and petitions these days? How will you cope in the 'real world' if you can't handle a grade boundary going up slightly?

"My boss isn't raising my salary. :frown:"
"Don't worry, Gary, I got a solution!"
"Oh really? What is it, Bill?"
"Well, Gary, we just start up a petition for change and get enough people to sign it! With an electronic and virtually meaningless piece of paper with a number on it your boss MUST give you what you want!"
*1 week later*
"Gary, you're fired."
Well what did you get? Most places at the highest want a B
You're going to be shipped back to Africa if you don't get an A*? Gosh times are tough! Damn conservative government!

Why say africa? common cases of deportation lies within asian households. And no that is far from the case..

***UPDATE*** THE GRADE BOUNDARIES ARE REAL, BIG SHOUTOUT TO EDEXCEL FOR BEING THE WORST EXAM BOARD IN ALL OF GCSE HISTORY.

Stop being sour because you (supposedly) didn't achieve A*. They make certain that around every year, the same % of people obtain each grade. It is all sound, with regards to boundaries.
