I haven't heard anything about a polo club, but you could always join a local one if the uni don't have one?

www.teamdurham.com - that's the athletic union's website =]

Ah, okay! Not a bad idea, I'll see if there are any local clubs. I didn't see that athletic site before; thought it would just be running/javelin/etc, so I'll look around there as well

I dont know of any local clubs, not the most popular sport in the North East

Not convined that'll still be active though.
Yeah, it's a bit of a - how should I put it - posh sport, and in the North East I've never met anyone who plays polo. It's all about football, rugby and a bit of cricket here it seems.

I'm sure I've seen a Durham polo match at some point in the past, can't remember whether it was a uni club or a non uni club, can't remember how long ago it was though so probably over five years ago. Sorry i couldn't be more helpful. There is a national polo website listing all registered polo clubs, you should be able to find it via google.

Just spoken to my sister who was with me at the aforementioned match, she reckons it was Durham against Cambridge so probably a uni club but again not sure if one exists today.

That might be of some help, doesn't list a Durham one so bad luck there although i'm not sure how complete the list is. I'm sure York uni have a team but they aren't listed there. Try giving the Schools and University Polo Association a ring or email they might be able to point you in the right direction, there contact details are on the list in the link above.

Sorry, fourth post in a row, really should have looked it all up before the first post but never mind, the Schools and University Polo Association website is good.

According to that Durham doesn't have one but Newcastle does so I'm sure if you were going to start one up they could lend a hand and offer some support.

loolypop, Im a fresher too. Going to Van mildert tomorrow. I was looking through the prospectus and in the list of sports it states that polo is a sport played (as well as water polo). I've never played polo (too much rugby myself) but was interested in getting invovled in it when i saw it in the prospectus today. You said you wanted to start polo n so would i, so would be good to get in contact n we could have a look at it? my email is [email protected] so feel free to get in contact if you want.

Hey everyone saw this, I have a mate who played for Durham Polo, there is indeed a university team (they subbed in for the 'Tabs at Jack Wills polo). PM me if you need more info / contact details.

Hey was doing an internet search and found this. I used to be the captain of the Durham polo team about 3 years ago. I believe it should still exist. However if you want to play your best bet is to visit the Vale of York polo club website and ask for Paul Piddington. Also check out Beverely Polo Club and SUPA (schools and Unis polo association). If you need any more info you can join the Facebook group University of Durham polo club. Its not been active for ages but i can give anybody wanting to go to Durham admin rights to set up the club if it no longer exists.

Hope this help

Totally forgot about this post people, so sorry!
Ok, so i asked around and found that there weren't any running Uni polo clubs; there used to be one but i think the place where they did it shut down or something and it never continued.
The activity on their Facebook page seemed to have ceased in 2007! http://www.facebook.com/?ref=logo#!/group.php?gid=2204301150&ref=ts
I'm now on the exec for Durham University Equestrian Club (DUEC) http://www.facebook.com/l.php?u=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.facebook.com%2F%3Fref%3Dlogo%23!%2Fgroup.php%3Fgid%3D122426925246%26ref%3Dts&h=2290bf7d2fd3423eff0ff9fb6692ad7d so next term/year i will try my best to find out/start/continue the polo club as i'd really love to give it a go. DUEC does all sorts such as side-saddle and horseball etc. so i don't see why i can't incorporate polo too!

Awesome, what college?
It's not that big really, it hasn't been running this year, but has done in the past. We've had side-saddle lessons (very fun!) though. Hopefully with our new exec we can get a few things back and running!
