desperately seeking accommodation advice!

Heya,

I am a New Zealand student who's coming to Leeds for semester 2 next January.

I'm just wondering what the opinions of different forms of accommodation are from a Leeds-perspective? I have no idea where to apply to. Are you even able to apply for accommodation for second semester or does it have to be year-round?

I am 20, outgoing and really wanting somewhere that involves lots of socialising, and drinking. I would much prefer to socialise with Brits than with other international students. Is flatting the best way to go or university accommodation? If the latter - what are the best university accommodation options for my specifications? Are they all filled with first-years or are there ones that have older students too? I don't want to feel like the old guy hahah.

Any help would be appreciated, cheers.

Hey! I'm an international student from Canada and I'll be studying at Leeds next year as well

I'm looking into accomodation as well, and I think i'm going to go with Lupton. It is a bit far from the uni (apparently a 25 minute walk) but it is supposed to be quite social.

I could be wrong about this, but it seems like the university groups international students together in a flat, and then British students would be in another flat.. but I'm assuming you would still be neighbours.

Someone please correct me if I'm wrong, but this is what I've gathered from reading here, and on the university website.. obviously I cna't just pop by for an open day

Hi both!

No, we don't group international students together but we do group single semester only students together, nearly all of whom are international. We also tend to group students of a similar age together and again, most international students, particularly exchange students are slightly older than most of our UK students.

I think if you want to live with UK students of a similar age, you may be better off looking for a place in a shared house - leave it until December and you may find places that have come up if someone has had to leave. Alternatively, if you don't mind sharing with other international students or with UK freshers who will generally be 18/19, there will be lots of university options open to you for January.

Hope this helps
