What is working as a recruitment consultant really like?

There are always loads of job posts for recruitment consultants and attractive commission rates which for me is very tempting. However what is it really like and does anyone enjoy it? Is it really that lucrative and have you progressed within an agency? What type of personalities really succeed in recruitment? Thank you for the responses
Thank you for the reply...I've been told in larger companies it is less 'cut throat'...is this that true?

Need to be a strong sales person.

You’ll like hitting targets and working hard to meet them.

Can be long hours - typically 8.00am (or earlier) starts and finishing at 6.30-7.00pm as you’ve got to work pre and post general office hours.

Highly sociable typically - environment tends to be work hard play hard types.

Unlikely to meet the top end of advertised salaries. You’d basically need to be the top 1% of performers to achieve that typically. Can be quite cut throat - you tend to be cut quite quickly if you don’t meet the grade.
