Can you have two contracts signed at the same time for a brief period?

I did an internship in the summer then got an offer in October for the graduate scheme, I accepted and signed the contract. About three weeks ago I get a new offer for a much better job and I have accepted.

My plan is to sign the contract (coming next week), wait until my referencing and vetting checks are complete, then give my one month notice to the first offer I got.

Is there anything illegal about this and if the second company finds out will they have a problem that I have two contracts signed at the same time?

The best thing to do is to tell the first company that you’ve had a change of heart. They’ll not hold you to the contract and you’ll have behaved honourable by withdrawing at the earliest possible opportunity. Do as you would be done by
