Sixth Form Help! (NCS vs LAET)

Hello everyone, I need some advice.

I’ve enrolled into NCS (Newham Collegiate Sixth Form) and into LAE Tottenham. Both are very good sixth forms, but NCS is much better in terms of results and opportunities.

Here is the situation: I want to study Maths, Further Maths, Physics and Economics since I want to go into Finance or Computer Science in the future (I hope I can decide in Year 12) and I need Further Maths to apply to either Economics or Computer Science at a top University (Oxbridge, LSE, Imperial.) Since I got a Grade 8 in GCSE Maths (I usually get 9’s, but got an 8 😔) NCS is not allowing me to do Further Maths. But LAE Tottenham is allowing me to do all my subjects there. Me and my parents would love myself to go NCS, but I really need Further Maths for my degrees. Also, I would really like to apply for a degree apprenticeship in one of the fields and I’m also considering trying to apply to an American Ivy League.

I would like some options and your advice/opinions on what you guys think I should do and why. Cus right now, I’m leaning towards LAET because I’ve heard Further Maths is really important.

Thanks guys, and please share to anyone who may be able to help!

For your computer science or economics degrees, instead of looking at top university, look at their course modules and decide whether you like them. So compare the course modules between university, dont just look at their reputation and decide you want to go there.
Do the A Levels you want to do. If you want to do further maths, go to LAE.
Ultimately, it is up to you to get the grades you need, different schools will be varied in their support.
What opportunities does NCS offer?

You don't need to do further maths to go on to do a CS or finance degree, if you can do well in it then it could be beneficial but I wouldn't just do it because you think you need it. I don't know much about London sixth forms as I'm not from around London, but I had a quick look at the NCS website and it does seem like a great opportunity.

They do offer support for degree apprenticeships, American Ivy League Universities, Oxbridge and they have super curricular classes and they do have connections. LAET also does, but NCS has a more proven record of it (they advertise it a lot)
Here’s the websites, as there a lot for me too say 😅

LAE Tottenham: https://www.laetottenham.org.uk/page/?title=Co%2Dcurricular+Offer&pid=16

NCS:
They have a lot, check the entire website:

But you do need Further Maths for CompSci or Econ degrees at Top Unis, there are people with all 4A*’s applying for an Econ at Oxford for example and they have been rejected because of no Further Maths, when their sixth form offered it. I just don’t want to take that risk.

The quality of your sixth form is more important than the subjects you take, unless you really want to take Further Maths. Besides, you might not get into a top University anyways, and many Universities below that level such as Lancaster do not require or even give a lower offer for Further Maths for Economics or Computer Science.

I believe I can get into a top Uni, and they really want further maths for both courses
The teachers at LAET are quite good (especially the maths department, they’ve wholeheartedly saved my grades) so I don’t think you’d be at any disadvantage studying there. I can’t speak for NCS, however what I’ve seen is that they do probably have more specialist support and seem to be dominating when it comes to A Level grade achievements (or many they just advertise it more?)

Have you asked NCS if there’s any possible way you’d be able to take Further Maths? Perhaps there’s something they could do if you show a great willingness to study it. But if not, I don’t think the quality of teaching at LAET is much different.
Hey
This is for someone who has went LAE Tottenham or Brampton Manor, so I've successfully managed to enroll into both however have to make a choice as to which one I want to go to.
I"m at this point so confused so have come here for advice, first of all commute for LAE Tottenham is 35 mins and Brampton Manor 1hr and 15 mins, so commute is slightly longer. Second of all, I already know a few people going LAE so less concern of making friends however I'm happy to make friends if necessary. Next, I've saw Brampton has significantly higher results and also the outcome of the students going to Oxbridge, if not Russell group unis, but LAE Tottenham has opportunities also where fewer students do well and also are able to continue on to Russell group unis and very few Oxbridge. I also see Brampton has a fair selection of clubs but so does LAE. I'm not too fussed on commute or friends but is Brampton worth that extra travel per day and also the fresh start?

Go to Brampton Manor. As someone who commuted to LAET, the extra commute is worth a better education. Yes LAE do have opportunities on offer but Brampton is just next level and you definitely don’t want to miss that chance, especially if you plan on going to one of the top Russell group universities.

If you could somehow get in contact with someone from NCS - like a teacher (Maths preferably) you can ask them if they would allow you to do Further Maths if you performed well in the first single maths mock/baseline test. From what I recall, some students who performed really well did get an opportunity to do further maths early in year 12. I am not sure if this is still the case and so thats why you should ask.

I sent an email to the principal, hopefully this works 🙏. I remember on enrolment day that a staff suggested this to me, but I completely forgot about it! Thank you so much. Are you a student at the NCS btw?

No, not anymore. I just finished year 13 this year at NCS and am going into first-year uni.

Thank you, I'm doing Medicine - I'd rather not disclose where I'm going to maintain my anonymity.
Please do ask if you have any other questions and I'll answer to the best of my ability.

Hi, would you please be able to give me some advice 😶*🌫️ seeing as you've gone NCS and are also doing medicine ( which I hope to go into!)

I'm enrolled at NCS and really like the school but it's a 1 hour 15 minute commute for me. I have to take 2 buses and am worried that journey, every day for 2 years will take a toll. Eg, I'd get home at around 5.30 and realistically only have 2 hours of homework/revision time on a weekday. I have to wake up at 5.30 latest and get out the house by 6.50.
Do you think the school is worth that daily commute? How many hours of home work did you do? Just for some context, I'm taking bio, chem, math, English.
I've got a place at LAET( 40 minute commute) and a more local sixth form, so if I'm debating whether to go to one of those instead.....
I'd really appreciate any help!!! Thanks
Hey so I'm in the exact same boat as you, I enrolled in bma and went induction however laet is local to me but honestly I might just enroll there, cuz ppl at brampton all seem to know each other and I knew no one also commutes wayy too long
