Cambridge to have "foundational programme" to improve access

Cambridge is planning to provide a university preparatory programme to help students from educationally disadvantaged backgrounds "adjust to the demands of a Cambridge course". The full details, including the length of the course and the colleges offering it, are still to be revealed but it will focus on black and minority ethnic students and those from state-run schools.

However unlike the foundation year at LMH, Oxford, the Cambridge programme will not offer reduced grades to applicants.

The scheme has been spearheaded by Cambridge’s Pro-Vice Chancellor for Education Professor Graham Virgo. Work on the proposal began in 2016. Virgo also commented: “We know we need to do more to attract those students who have the potential to study here, but have not been applying to us.”

Yes, it means the entry requirements remain the same (A*AA for arts & humanities, A*A*A for most sciences) but there's additional help provided to disadvantaged offer holders. I presume it will be a summer school type thing prior to Freshers.

It's definitely not like the LMH Foundation Year.
