I need to rant about Jewelcrafters . . .

Okay, so on most servers, a silver bar costs about a gold . . . and several of the earlyish (around 90-100) rings a jewelcrafter can make require one or more silver bars . . . so why the hell are people selling these items for 15-40 silver??? How the hell can I make a serious profit on my jewelcrafting if some idiots are flooding the market with excessively cheap jewelry?!

Don't expect to make a profit from crafting skills. The good money is in mining and herbalism and the likes.

Selling stacks of bronze bars for 5g, and all it takes is going back and forth between the oasis in the barrens. Mining owns!
Mining is cool. Pity about the lack of decent deposits where I am. I need to live in Mulgore, really. Or up near Ironforge.

I'm not really trying to make money, just a little peeved at the stupidly low prices. Want to get to as high a level as I can before I need to start doing my own material collection/grinding. Being able to make level 22 rare items is pretty good for a level 12. This is the only character I have where I am paying decent attention to the profession.

WORLD OF WARCRAFT®: WRATH OF THE LICH KING™ UNVEILED

Blizzard Entertainment® reveals new expansion for its popular subscription-based massively multiplayer online role-playing game at BlizzCon™ gaming festival

PARIS, France. – 3 August, 2007 -- Blizzard Entertainment, Inc. today announced plans for the second expansion to World of Warcraft®, its award-winning massively multiplayer online role-playing game (MMORPG). Unveiled at the company’s BlizzCon™ gaming festival before an audience of more than 8,000 gamers, World of Warcraft: Wrath of the Lich King™ will open the forbidding wasteland of Northrend to exploration by the hardiest adventurers. New levels of power, challenging new dungeons and encounters, an exciting new character profession, and the game’s first hero class are just some of the new features awaiting players in Wrath of the Lich King.

“This expansion will add some of the most infamous characters and settings from the Warcraft® universe to World of Warcraft,” said Mike Morhaime, president and cofounder of Blizzard Entertainment®. “In addition to new story content, Wrath of the Lich King will introduce a number of features specifically requested by players over the past couple of years. We’re looking forward to sharing further details with everyone as development progresses.”

Players last visited Northrend in Warcraft III: The Frozen Throne™, when Arthas Menethil fused with the spirit of Ner’zhul to become the Lich King, one of the most powerful beings in the Warcraft universe. He now broods atop the Frozen Throne deep in Icecrown Citadel, clutching the rune blade Frostmourne and marshaling the undead armies of the Scourge. In Wrath of the Lich King, the forces of the Alliance and the Horde will venture into battle against the Scourge amid Northrend’s howling winds and fields of jagged ice.

Building on the foundation established in World of Warcraft and The Burning Crusade, Wrath of the Lich King will add a rich variety of content to an already massive game. New features coming with the game’s second expansion include:
• Death Knight Hero Class: Create a high-level Death Knight character -- the game’s first hero class -- once certain challenges have been met.
• Increased Level Cap: Advance to level 80 and gain potent new talents and abilities along the way.
• Northrend: Explore the harsh new continent of Northrend, packed with new zones, quests, dungeons, monsters, and items -- and do battle with the undead armies of the Lich King.
• “Inscription” Profession: Learn this exciting new profession and gain unique ways to permanently enhance spells and abilities in the game.
• Siege Weapons and Destructible Buildings: Take the battle to another level with new player-vs.-player game mechanics and new battlefields to wage war on.
• New Character Customization: Change how characters look and express themselves, with different hairstyles and dance animations.

Since launching in November 2004, World of Warcraft has become the world’s most popular MMORPG, with a subscriber base of more than 9 million players. The game’s first expansion, The Burning Crusade, broke PC-game sales records in North America and Europe by selling nearly 2.4 million copies in its first 24 hours of availability and approximately 3.5 million copies in its first month. World of Warcraft is available in seven different languages and, in addition to North America and Europe, is played in mainland China, Korea, Australia, New Zealand, Singapore, Thailand, Malaysia, and the regions of Taiwan, Hong Kong, and Macau.

World of Warcraft: Wrath of the Lich King

FAQ

Features

Q: What are the features of the new expansion?
A: Wrath of the Lich King builds on the rich foundation established in World of Warcraft and The Burning Crusade, providing a wealth of new content for players to explore. The harsh, forbidding continent of Northrend, home of the Lich King and his undead minions, will be uncovered on the world map, and to contend with the new challenges found there, players will be able to advance to level 80, acquiring potent new abilities and talents along the way.

In addition, Wrath of the Lich King will introduce the death knight hero class to World of Warcraft. Once certain criteria are met, players will be able to create a new death knight character, which will start at a high level. Furthermore, player-vs.-player battles will reach a new level of intensity with the addition of siege weapons and destructible buildings, not to mention a new battleground. There will also be an abundance of new quests, dungeons, monsters, items, and recipes -- as well as a new profession, inscription -- for players to try out. The expansion will include some additional character-customization options for players as well. We’ll be going into more detail on all of these features in the months ahead.

Q: How will the death knight class fit into the game?
A: The death knight combines martial prowess with dark, necromantic energies. Players might be familiar with the death knight from previously released Warcraft games -- most recently, in the campaigns for Warcraft III: Reign of Chaos and the Frozen Throne expansion, the former paladin Arthas became a death knight and wreaked havoc across Azeroth and Northrend before fusing with the spirit of Ner’zhul to become the Lich King. The death knight is the first hero class in World of Warcraft; once certain criteria are met, players will unlock the ability to create a new death knight character, which will begin play at a high experience level. We’re currently exploring various options for how the death knight will play and the types of abilities at its disposal, and we’ll be revealing more information about this new class as we get further along in development.

Q: Will the death knight have any abilities from previously released Warcraft games?
A: The way we portrayed death knights in past Warcraft games is certainly a source of inspiration, but we are still determining how best to capture that feel within the mechanics of World of Warcraft, and haven’t made any final determinations on specific abilities.

Q: What role will the death knight play in groups and raids?
A: In general terms, the death knight can be considered a type of class that combines damage dealing and tanking, but naturally it will have an array of unique abilities as well.

Q: What races will be allowed to play death knights?
A: We haven’t yet made a final determination about which races can be death knights. However, the class will be available to both the Alliance and the Horde.

Q: Will there be additional hero classes in the future?
A: Yes, we do intend to add more hero classes in the future, but right now our focus is on the current expansion.

Q: What is the story background of the expansion?
A: Players last visited Northrend in the Warcraft III expansion, when Arthas Menethil fused with the spirit of Ner’zhul to become the Lich King, one of the most powerful entities in the Warcraft universe. He now broods atop the Frozen Throne deep in Icecrown Citadel, clutching the rune blade Frostmourne and marshaling the undead armies of the Scourge. In Wrath of the Lich King, the greatest champions of the Alliance and the Horde will do battle with the Scourge amid Northrend’s howling winds and fields of jagged ice, and ultimately face the Lich King himself.

Q: Will players actually get to encounter Arthas himself?
A: Players will be skirmishing with the minions of Arthas from the moment they set foot on Northrend. He will be a constant presence as players progress through the expansion content -- which will culminate in a showdown with the dread Lich King himself.

Q: Can you discuss some of the new talents and abilities that will be available from level 70 to level 80?
A: As with character advancement up to level 70, players will gain access to an array of potent and exciting new abilities and talents as they make their way from level 70 to level 80. However, it’s still too early to get into specifics on these.

Q: How long will it take to advance from level 70 to level 80?
A: We were pleased with the pacing from level 60 to level 70 in The Burning Crusade, and we intend to take a similar approach to pacing character advancement in Wrath of the Lich King. However, the specific amount of time that it will take players to reach level 80 will vary widely based on play style.

Q: What can you reveal about Northrend?
A: The first area of Northrend we’re showcasing is the Howling Fjord, a region of grasslands overlooking massive cliffs at the southeastern edge of the continent. This, along with the Borean Tundra, is the front line of the war against Arthas, and players will come face to face with his minions as soon as they set foot on Northrend. Eventually, as players progress further, they will explore the Grizzly Hills, Dragonblight, and more. We’ll be showing off some of these new areas in the months ahead.

Q: What’s the level requirement to enter Northrend?
A: Players of any level who have purchased the expansion can visit Northrend. However, all of the content is designed for players level 68 and up.

Q: How many new dungeons will be in the expansion?
A: The first dungeon players will enter is Utgarde Keep, which is intended for five players around level 70. Utgarde is inhabited by the Vrykul, a Viking-like race bent on proving their strength to the Lich King, who will raise the most worthy of their warriors to serve him beyond the grave. We intend to provide a variety of dungeons comparable to that in The Burning Crusade and will be revealing more details about some of these in the months ahead.

Q: Do you plan to continue with the 25-player model for raids?
A: Yes. We’ve been pleased with the tactics, intensity, and variety of the 25-player raid model, and plan to continue with it.

Q: Will the new dungeons have heroic versions?
A: Yes. We feel that the heroic versions of dungeons are a great way to add another level of challenge and reward for experienced players, and we intend to continue creating these variants.

Q: In what ways will players be able to further customize their characters in the expansion?
A: In addition to the numerous new character-customization options that will be available with all of the new weapons and armor added by the expansion, we’ll be offering some fun ways to alter both existing and new characters with regard to dances and hairstyles, but we’re not ready to go into more detail just yet.

Q: What can you reveal about the new profession coming with the expansion?
A: The Inscription profession will allow players to permanently enhance their own spells and abilities and those of other players. We’ll provide more specific details on the mechanics of this new profession in the months ahead.

Q: What can players expect with regard to player-vs.-player combat in the expansion?
A: Players will be able to take control of siege weapons and use them to destroy opposing buildings, adding a new layer of complexity to PvP battles. Naturally, we’ll be providing some fun places to put these new tools to good use, and we’ll be revealing more information about them in the months ahead, in addition to the new battleground content being added.

Q: Can you give a sneak peek at the new recipes and items in the expansion?
A: There will be hundreds of new recipes and thousands of new items available, but we’re not ready to discuss specific examples just yet.

Q: Will there be any graphical enhancements?
A: Yes. We’re currently working on some technical enhancements to the game’s graphics, and we’ll be discussing these further in the months ahead.

Q: How many zones will be in the expansion?
A: Northrend will be roughly equivalent to Outland in terms of size and scope.

Q: Will there be any new cinematic scenes?
A: Yes, our cinematics department is hard at work preparing a new intro movie for the expansion.

Release/Availability

Q: Do you need to own the expansion to play with friends who have it?
A: There will be many aspects of the expansion that will be available to all players. However, in order to experience certain content, such as Northrend, or be able to play as a death knight, players must purchase the expansion.

Q: Will there be an open beta test of the expansion?
A: We have not yet determined whether the expansion will require an open beta test. If we do decide to conduct a beta test, details will be posted on the official World of Warcraft website once we’ve gotten further along in the development process.

Q: When will the expansion be released? How much will it cost?
A: We have not yet announced a release date for the expansion set. However, we expect to announce further details, including the release date and price, on our community website in the months ahead. Please stay tuned to www.wow-europe.com for more information.

Q: Will there be a collector’s edition?
A: We have not yet made any determination about whether there will be a collector’s edition of Wrath of the Lich King. We’ll be announcing details such as this closer to release.

Q: Will a Mac version be available simultaneously with the PC version?
A: Yes. As with all of our games, Wrath of the Lich King will be compatible with and optimized for both the Windows and Macintosh platforms.

Q: What are the system requirements?
A: We’ll continue to ensure that the game is playable on a wide range of hardware. However, we have not made a final determination on the system requirements as yet.

Q: Will the expansion be released globally at the same time?
A: We recognize that players throughout the world will be eager to experience all of the new content being added with Wrath of the Lich King, and we will make every effort to release the expansion simultaneously worldwide. However, there’s always the possibility that unforeseen circumstances could delay the launch in any given region. We’ll share the launch timing with players in each region as soon as the plans have been finalized.

Q: What is the PEGI rating for the expansion?
A: The expansion has not yet been rated by the PEGI. However, we anticipate that it will receive the same rating that the original World of Warcraft received -- “Age 12+.”

So, what does everyone think about Arthas (the lich king) being reduced to an objective to be ****ted on by raiding parties?
Reply 89
forgetting about Arthas, how about Kil'Jaeden being the end boss of the Sunwell.....that guy is the most powerful dude in existance I believe ( forgetting titans and gods)

I dont mind...lore is fun, killing scary things is fun. bring it.
I really hope they don't make the same ****ups that they did with TBC . . . such as making the level 60ish quest rewards and drops for Outlands WAY better than the level 60 epic instance rewards and boss drops. No wonder no-one can be bothered with doing things like Onyxia's Lair anymore. And if we have level 80s wondering about, ganking any newb they like, I hope they raise the level of the guards on all towns, not just the big ones. I can see the Crossroads etc being a complete hell-hole if they leave the level 40 guards at their posts.

But, if it does get integrated well, I look forward to the new expansion =)
Reply 91
of course they will do it. Level progression is pointless if items dont follow with it. and yes Onyxia is only done for fun.....once again, its unavoidable with the level system. and I used my Tier 3 up until level 70..so thats about right. A complete gear reset from 60- 70 was good for the game, evened up the playing field for a short while.

They plan to revisit Naxx though..which is great news.
Well, if they had just done a teeny bit to extend the content of Azeroth from level 60 to about 62, and then let people into Outlands, then everyone would still have to finish off the end game content on the mainland, and get a bit of use out of their decent kit, before they were tempted with new and prettier rewards. I'm just looking forward to having no-one to game with when I get to level 60 and want to finish off Azeroth before heading to the Outlands.
Reply 93
forcing people to finish off content is wrong in many ways. What about casuals / PVPers? MMO are about choice..you could grind your way to 70 and not see one bit of content if you wanted too, choice 4tw.

We did Naxx for fun at the weekend and still managed a few whipes..and thats at 70 with two BT attuned guilds.

So no, I strongly disagree
Of course it is about choice. But the way TBC has been pulled off, people like me DON'T have a choice to do the Azeroth end-game stuff, because everyone shoots off to Outlands and ignores the old content because there are greater rewards to be had. Integrating the expansions so that one game gets finished before another begins doesn't limit choice, because they never had the choice in the first place. If people really don't want to do the old end-game content, they can grind for a couple of levels (or maybe Blizzard could add a few quests in Azeroth that will take people from level 59-62ish without the need to grind their *******s off or do instances). Then they can move up to Outlands. I don't think the lack of participation in old end-game content is about people not liking it, but about people liking the new content more, or at least being impatient about sampling it, and wanting the new, shiny rewards. I don't think people would hate Blizzard that much if they raised the level for Outlands entry, as they would still get to do the content, and the rest of us would love Blizzard, because there would be more demand for the old content.
Reply 95
its impossible to include old content at lower levels while advancing the game forward ( and so introducing higher levels). Forcing people to do instanced PVE is not acceptible. and saying its not limiting choice as it doesnt exist in first place doesnt really work either. People when 58 and up should be able to go to a level 58 and up area..simple as.

The sorts of numbers of people playing 55-60 are very minute now as most people are 70. If people actually had to go through all level 60 instances before progressing to Outland..what happens if you cant get enough people together? you are ****ed, and Blizzard have no need to bring that sort of risk into the game. If you wanna experience it, go find some friends to help. But dont introduce the option of people getting 'stuck' in an mmorpg. Wouldnt ever work.

if you get yourself a good guild, you can run through it with them. Sad fact is people like gear and improving their character..and Outland is the best path for this. If all this level 60 content is as fun as you say it is..it can be revisited when a higher level for the fun of it. Like I said Naxxramas is being revisited and that place was the biggest waste of all..not enough people saw all the bosses. Such a brilliant place.

It is impossible to keep all 1-60 PVE content incorporated into the 1-70 WoW experience.
Why? You say it is impossible to incorporate with higher level content and still play the old game, but I couldn't agree less. A level 58 CAN do level 58 and above content in Azeroth . . . all the old end game content is designed for everyone up to level 60! If you simply extended that content a little, and maybe added a new 60-62 dungeon in Azeroth, you would get a flawless movement from Azeroth end-game, to Outlands. Or maybe a new level 60 area in Azeroth designed for people grinding to Outlands level, or maybe easier access to the new battlegrounds so that PvPers can access it while in the transition phase, without having to move to the Outlands to satisfy their PvP lust (but surely that isn't an issue anyway, as the battlegrounds an be accessed via the capital cities . . ?)

If I just wanted to come back and do the old content "for fun" I would get the 70 and then go on a nostalgia trip. But I want to do the old content as part of my characters fundamental progression, and there are simply not enough opportunities to do this anymore. Suddenly, instead of a new element of choice being added, a whole segment of the game is obsolete to all but those hardened level 70s who fancy a trip down memory lane . . . and certainly the old rewards are completly obsolete. What was once a great achievement is now simply "oh, why did you bother getting that crap? Come to Outlands, you muppet". I just want the end-game stuff to be revvived by people in the here-and-now. There is just so much good stuff, and a little tweaking would make it totaly relevant again! As I said. If people don't like the old content (why they would get through the entire game and then say "I don't like the level 60 content" I have no idea . . .) they can just avoid it. But with Outlands as it is, even those of us in decent guilds can't find buddies to play with, as everyone is terribly busy with Outlands and can't be arsed to quest for rewards that are no longer decent.

And it takes the piss for all those people who did bother with the content, to have level 58-60s swaning around with shiny new Outlands rewards that took a fraction of the effort to get but are way better . . . why did they make the Outlands rewards so much better than the Azeroth rewards of a comparable level?

You know, if they only changed one thing, it should be to make the Outlands 58-61 rewards/items/etc of the same ilk as the old epic sets from old game content. That way, people might still be tempted by the old sets, as they would still have some function.
Reply 97
you know Blizzard are there to make money right? How do they get people to buy the new expansion....

cool shiny new stuff!!

and it wouldnt take little tweaks to gear to smooth the transition...Tier 3 Naxx gear was usable up until level 70. ( Hell we have an Offtank in Black Temple still using Tier 3 Warrior boots! Embarassing for him, funny for us ) Gear that took small effort was worthless, I dont see a problem.

you also wanted another NEW instance in Azeroth! what good would adding new 62 level content..when Outlands is the place you go to level to 70. The only old world stuff is instanced over level 60. Azeroth will never have areas/content to level to 70.

you also had to ask if Azeroth cities still allow access to PVP arenas. this leads me to believe you no longer play / and or know very little about what you speak of.

Blizzard got it right, they just broke 9 million subs, the new expansion looks great. they took the game, and progressed it to a max cap of L70. They sold an expansion and created an even playing field with a good gear reset. People can still do level 60 5-40 mans..but its NOT the end game anymore, level 70 is.

Level 65 greens should be equiv to level 60 blues..thats just how it is.
*sigh*

I'm not a PvPer, so shoot me. I've yet to find someone who excells in all spheres of the game.

Clearly the Naxx stuff can't really be used up to level 70, or you wouldn't have been laughing at him . . .

and of course I'm not talking about content that gets people tp 70 in Azeroth. I'm taking about making the Outlands transition level a teeny bit higher and having enough content in Azeroth to let you get to that level without having to grind youself into oblivion. Basicly, I'm just talking about keeping the old content relevant to current levelers, instead of plonking Outlands on top of it. There doesn't need to be an overlap, and just as many people will have bought the game if they had to level up twice more to use the expansion. Not eveyone was a level 60 champing on their bits for new content when TBC came out. Some people didn't even start playing until TBC came out, and wouldn't see any difference between moving up to Outlands at 58 or 62. Having a higher level transition wouldn't stop anyone doing anything. It would enable people! and open up all the content, rather than just the new stuff.

Let me ask you honestly . . . if it had been done my way, and Outlands had been a progression on from 60 (or a little higher) rather than an area that replaced the old content and took you a different route past 60, would you be on here moaning about it and saying they should have made Outlands accessible to lower levels? Would you be saying "it's terrible that there are people doing Onyxia's Lair, why can't we all just miss it out and go to Outlands"?
Reply 99
level 70 5 mans and Black Temple are a world apart.

Outlands made available from 58 made the game MORE accessible to new people. and I reiterate my old point Blizzard used the level 58 opening to sell more copies.
